how can you turn senat against you?

i wonder how can you make - start war with other roman families. i know you cant just attack them and so i want to know if you can fail to kill a familly mamber and then they turn against you? can it be dont this way?

There have been cases where you can send an assassin to kill a family member of SPQR (or one of the other Roman factions too?) and when your assassin fails, the civil war starts. That would be because when an assassination attempt by you fails on an ally, they cancel the alliance with you. In the case of Romans, the alliance is the only thing holding them together. Once it's gone, it's civil war.

On the other hand, you could always just conquer the world and wait until you get the message that tells you your popularity with the masses is high enough for you to gain glory, and then you should be able to just attack another Roman faction and start the civil war outright.

Just depends on which way you want to do it, whether you want it early or later. Later might be fun, because if the other Romans have built up large empires, you can have an epic civil war, and have a nice end-of-game challenge (the game can get boring in the later stages when you steamroller other factions...a nice new challenge might not go amiss).

Well, it depends. I remember I have experience that Senate started a civil war after I conquered whole Europe.

Easiest way is to send a diplomat to the Senate and cancel your alliance. Civil War starts the next turn

I have tried before... the game doesn't let you cancel and keep telling you your popularity is too low!

And about assassin, useless too. I had a campaign of Scipii before and I had assassined nearly whole Julii and Brutii family members, but civil war was still not started until very late time.

i was playing Scipii and i failed to assasinated one Brutii... Brutii then canceled alliance and i had to move my units out of his teritoryes....
can i do same thing? can i also ask him to leave mine? if so... how?

No that's one of the quirks with rome totall war, they can ask you to leave but you can't ask it to leave.

In other words, it's a confusing situation. You can and can't start the civil war with the same methods...

In other words, it's a confusing situation. You can and can't start the civil war with the same methods...

Haha, I have tried many times during my Scipii campaign, both fail or success. The civil war didn't start even the assassin fail.
