Default flame this if you must

I have come to the point where I want to carve my brain out of my head every time I read the phrase "shameful display" in any of its' variants.

No offense meant to anyone; this is about words, not people. However, for those who care to indulge in petulance (as though there's anyone like that here); flame on.

Its true though...my parents to this day still get L's and R's mixed up, and they've been fluent English speakers for many years.

    Mobucks,

I agree, grudgingly; you performed a necessary (or inevitable, at least) function. Thus, I must thank you, even as I rummage through my knife-drawer.

You are demonstrably wrong. The voice actors in Shogun mix up their Ls and Rs on a very regular basis. It's nothing to be ashamed of, it's a cultural thing. In their language, L and R are the same sound, or rather there is no L.

But trying to be reverse-racist and pretending you dont notice it doesnt help as much as you think.

The original thread made me smile for a while when I just saw the topic title in the thread listings. It's old now and is getting to the point where I roll my eyes.

You don't get the joke? I'll explain it, basically the voice actor that did that particular part of the game is 100% British, majority of the voice acting in the game is fairly well done (except the Geisha adviser, she's annoying as hell). Most of the voice actors have been genuinely Japanese speaking peoples, people point out how silly and slack having a british voice actor in this role really is, if you want to argue "immersion" this should be the first thing pulling you out of it- it is a very british voice and he does little to cover it up, its also over acted. We joke about it simply because its silly and didn't have to be in the game, I don't think anyone likes it rather would be happy if they just got rid of it like they did with Medieval 2 (after realizing the same thing "MY LORD WE SHALL SOON BE VICTORIOUS!" was as annoying as hell in those tightly fought battles.) Other than that, the voice acting is pretty good all round, there's a few bugs with it that make it annoying in cases (like your soldiers always yelling the same 3 words over and over).

I think you are way over-thinking it...it just sounds funny due to its hints of Engrish and its melodramatic delivery.

He is? The list we had here digged from the files somewhere had two people being non-Japanese among the voices, and I don't think the advisor was one of them. And both female voices had Japanese names (could of course have been immigrants, but that is less likely).

If you have proof that he is British, then he is British, but if you go on a hunch the proof I have seen says you are more likely to be wrong than right.

Same here. It's getting tiresome seeing 'SHAMEFUL DISPLAY', or worse 'SHAMEFURR DISPRAY'. Unplug your ears, people. He clearly says 'SHAMEFUL DISPLAY'! I know what a Japanese person sounds like when they get their R's and L's mixed up - I've acted with enough of them; this guy isn't one of them.

Dude, he doesn't say it that mispronounced. He just says "Shamefur Display", his accent is actually quite decent.

You are fast becoming someone who's posts are likely to catch my attention; invoking that Full House dork has seriously tickled my funnybone.

I don't think you're making him feel better - it's having the opposite effect as intended (his thread)
