hello guys im going to explain what happened on my bizantine campaign
i start the campaign, normally i take smyrna, diplomacy missions, rhodes etc,
but i decided to go to durazzo, its a big province and who hold the city have an strategical control of the ships who exit and enter in the adriatic. the venezian just finished conquer zagreb and they move to durazzo. i arrived fisrt at durazzo and conquer the city. one turn after and i toke some of durazzo garrison to reinforce thessalonica. in the next turn, venice attacks me with an full stack army come from nowhere and i lose the city

why at turn 12 they attacked me?

Cause Venice wants this city, too... Other factions, too, at least Sicily. And i'd also add that Byz is an "easy target" for every other faction (the Pope doesn't care).

The AI had siege orders for that city 1-2 turns before....they dont care if its yours or not,they just do whats in the list...

yes but what suprised me was the huge army followed with those reinforcements.. anyways, i with a GB, variadotai(or whatever is its name)2 bizantines spearmen and a tunit of trezibond archers kiled 30% of their army

but i caught me on suprise. i could lose the campaign, my lucky is that i troops i was forced to call the garrisons of thessalonica, constantinople and reinforcements of corinth. im planning to strike at crete with prince john and his army, when i get out of the red(bankrupt)

If you dont have any AI behaviour based mods,its not possible to lose the campaign,the chance is so minor that it happens to 1 in 1000 players.
Just carefull with the archers,they all have the hidden MasterTeamkiller trait.

If you play as Venice or Byzantines, whoever holds Durazzo will have to withstand constant attacks from those two plus usually Sicily. It's also possibly the slowest growing settlement in the game.

Yeah some factions are just hardcoded basicly to go after some settlements such as the scots and english with York its York right or Nottingham i been playing to much SS but hungary and the byzentines seem to always fight over Sofia as well

I agree with this. Some factions really want certain settlements. Danes always go for Antwerp. Polan always goes for Kiev. Spain and/or Portugal will always want to expand north through Rennes up to Dublin. The Byzantines always fight Venice over Iraklion. There are certain settlements in the game that are prized by surrounding factions. Avoiding them in the beginning will help keep the peace.

As said above, there are certain cities that are hard coded for the AI to want to take. Durrazo being a prime example. It's a crappy little town that never grows into anything, but it seems everyone wants it. The best thing to do, if you don't want to get into an immediate war, is to figure out what those settlements that the AI wants, (hint, one is Durrazo) and not bother with them. When playing Venice, I always get the mission to take that dumb city, but if I don't want to get immediately in war with the Byzzies, I ignore that mission. Let em have it and they will leave you alone. That is until they decide to take Ragusa, but you know thats coming too so you fortify it. They like Irkalion as well. I've been know to abandon that city on the first turn if I didn't want to waste cash defending a city far away from my power base of Venice. When playing Venice, I'm usually concerned with consolodating my power base in Italy, so that war over Durazzo is just wasted money when I should be killing the Milanese (or Genoans depending on the mod)

yeah, when playing in the Venice campaign you get a mission to take Durrazo, shortly after the mission to take Zagreb. the AI received the same missions I assume, or at least acts according to the same goals. also as others have said it's 1 of the crappiest towns in the game, that barely grows. IIRC in vh/vh the AI gets a 2% growth bonus or something, so might as well just let the AI have it for a while, hopefully with the AI bonus it can upgrade beyond village level sometime. than just take it when it's a town/large town and continue with destroying whichever faction held it. there's no reason to rush Durrazo as it doesn't really give you anything. it's also too small for a port so you can't even use it as a nice harbor.

yeah, venice always spams those stacks full of mailed knights and armoured sergents (they have that castle near Durazzo, forgot the name, Ragusa?), the AI gets financial help every turn so ....
yes, it's annoying for me too

That´s nothing to complain about, I often get attacked during the first 10 turns.

yeah, i wanted that settlement because of its strategically position to invade italy and adriatic, but with the hungarians its ok im their ally.

when i said that i could lose the campaign i was talking about get raiped in hte campaign, if i didnt have all those troops i certanly could lose the income cities like thessalonica or even constantinople. i play this game for an year and this never happend to me

yes every campaign i play since august is in vh/vh. and this never happend. maybe on previous campaigns i didnt rivalize with an faction for one settlement. but on my campaign, i already knowed that sooner or later i will et under attack by venice, but i didnt expected to early. thanks for the help guys
