Game failure.
Hi,
I'm not really sure where to put this, but I think I've found the right page for it.
First off I would like to say the Total War series are awesome (obviously) and I have enjoyed playing every game very much. HOWEVER I have also had a lot of tech problems with the games (MTW1 & RTW) on my old laptop. I figured that would be history with the purchase of my new PC and MTW2. Too bad it's not.
I have Windows 7 and I am sure I have all the driver updates for my hardware. My desktop also matches the system requirements.
About the crash: I am playing as the Byzantines in the Grand Campaign Mode (The short version). I am around 35 turns in the game. After taking Sofia from the Hungarians I decided to clean up my realm and attack some of the rebel armies. I took about 7 units from Sofia and tried to attack a rebel army that was just at the furthest reach point of my army. Since my army was stronger, the rebel army did the bowing movement and stepped back, but the battle screen came up aswell. I hadn't seen the 'bow movement' at that point so pressed the automatically resolve button and won the battle. Short said: I fought a battle with them AND they retreated when i tried to attack. Exactly then the problems started:
My entire map doesn't quite work. I can't give moving orders to any of my troops / priests / etc.. When i select characters that should be able to move, and I click somewhere in the map to give them a destination the green arrow appears but they don't move. When i deselect them, and select them again the green arrow is gone. Short said: They won't friggin' move
.
Also I can't seem to save anymore. Both quicksave (CTRL + S) and 'Save Game' in the menu don't work.
I was able to add units and buildings to the construction cue, but I couldn't disband any units at all because they all were 'in combat'. In my foolishness I tried to resolve all this by ending my turn, but this lead to the point where the game gets stuck in the turn of France. I can't move my map around (unless I go to the menu).
I looked around the forum for a problem which resembled mine, but couldn't find anything, so I am hoping someone can help me like this.
Thanks in advance.
PS: Sorry for the incorrect use of time in my verbs, I was fiddling with the game at the same time.

Re: Game failure.
Post your dxdiag. It looks like you're low on memory for one.
