Princess: Why some are active and some aren't

Hey, just a question for someone that discovered M2 sorta late in the game.

google searched for this with no answers..figured you lot would know though.

Why do some princesses come of age and are functional characters, and others (of the same bloodline) turn into just pictures on the wall?

Mods:
Retrofit + BBB

I monitor the bloodlines carefully (alot of incest..looks more like the family stick verses the family tree)...and would say about 75% of my princesses do "come alive" at 16, but am curious why some occasionally just go on and never turn into anything beyond a picture on the wall...sucks also because quite often, out of the 3 bloodlines I have going, they all have some very good traits passing down (selective breeding), so losing a princess also means potentially losing a trait (can't make a cousin marry a picture)

So, any ideas...or at least point me to a place where this was already discussed?

Only the daughters of the current faction leader are princesses, the rest are just considered regular women with a loose connection to the royal family. If every female in the royal family could be used as a princess, the map would be swarming.

ok, but that doesn't answer the question though...why are some active and some just pictures? I have had many "princesses'...ok, lets just call em ladies...had plenty active from different bloodlines wandering around at once...but occasionally, one from a random family simply becomes a picture (even when the family has a active lady sister)...

just trying to figure out what makes one "Come alive" and one not.

oh, and wanted to also add: the map is swarming with "ladies"...but that may be because of the Blood, Broads, and Bastards mod installed...so, this might not be just a vanilla game issue (since I didn't really play alot of vanilla before upgrading to this mod)

Perhaps it has to do with you marrying royal princesses to and from other factions. Sometimes I get my princesses married off to dangerous rivals. So their blood lines go to the other factions family tree.
