Default New to the mod, help!

    Hi,

I've just started with this mod and to be fair it looks fantastic.

My main question is whether to start with 0 or 1 turn recruitment?

Obviously 0 turn will involve more stacks but can someone give me an example of how many stacks I can expect to face mid-late game and how many battles per turn. I don't want to start on 0 turn and then at turn 50 realise i've made a mistake when 20 full stacks come at me out of the fow!

Sorry if this has been answered before, i could find anything searching the forum anyway.

    Thanks

better with less stacks they get boring latter on , better to fight meaningful battles not so often , imo ,when you win a decisive battle it feels good , where as years of stacks becomes so droll

Play 1-turn, seriously. In 0-turn every faction is going to have at least 5 full stacks, no mather how many regions. 0-turn is only for players who like battles more then the campaign map in my opinion. I'm playing 1-turn Rome now, and while I had to fight quite some Avernian armies at the beginning of my campaign against them. After I destroyed them all, they weren't able to train new ones immediately.

    Wow! This mod is fine!

Just started as Rome (of course) m/h. Managed to beat Hannibal with the starting army plus 1 companion cavalry but lost over 75% of my army in the process. The revolts then fired and now i'm down to 3 cities on the mainland plus sicily and 1 in greece (rebels took 3 cities, carthage took 1, abandoned spain ). I'm in the red financially so i will need to rely on the troops i have, this is how total war should be!

Try FGE after if you like a challenge and an excellently deigned campaign

Ferdiad, I'm enthralled w/ RS2, but what is FGE?
"With a population of around a million, Rome (in Claudius' time) was a vast city even by modern standards. It is worth pointing out that during the early Renaissance the population of Rome was no more than fifteen thousand-- living amid the ruins of a civilization that dwarfed their own. It was not until the nineteenth century that the population of Rome returned to the levels it had enjoyed under the Caesars. That is eloquent proof of the fact that human history is not a tale of steady progress towards greater knowledge and achievement." Simon Scarrow

I played a campaign as pontus then got Five Good Emperors because it seemed to add a bunch of good stuff for a roman playthrough and it is excellent.

At the very beginning it can be extremely frustrating because you have to get used to the fact that you will actually face setbacks. I've played TW games from Med1 all through Napoleon and almost never did I feel like I was in danger of losing. The AI was just sort of a speed bump for me to roll over. I was getting seriously frustrated but eventually I started having backup armies/making sure I sent MORE than enough troops to do the job instead of just he bear minimum. Only being able to recruit legions from a few places really makes it hurt when you lose a bunch of them it also makes you enjoy and rely on some of the mercs, which I normally never use. The phalanx dudes in southern italy are a life saver for all the grindout fights with hoards of carthage spearmen, the archers with silly hats from corsica are nice too.
