    Default Help with the Cimbri

I just recently got back into Roma Surrectum when I saw that RS II had come out. I am playing a Cimbri campaign on H/H and am currently in a battle over europe with the Romans. The problem I am having is the Romans just hit the Marian reforms and their armies are now able to give me trouble. I would like to know what tactics people use against the Roman Legions.

USE YOUR BEARZ!!! (I meant Bear Warriors)

they eat Numbered Legions for breakfast in melee (but DO NOT ever make them vulnerable against arrows, that's your poor sods' job to absorb them!

I haven't played cimbri yet in RS2, only Germanic Tribes in 1.6. But I have tried some celtic factions so it is somewhat similair. Those legions are indeed nasty, especially the pila gives me a headache. Generally I would advice locking their cohorts down with stable close combat infantry, Nervii swordsmen, teutonic axemen etc. Meanwhile your bear warriors go around and crash into their flanks. This can quite often cause you to roll up their entire line in a chain route, or at least rout sufficient numbers where you can just surround and chop up the rest. Keep enough cavalry or spearmen free to deal with their support cavalry, which is rather small. Their legions have a scripted setup so you can calculate how much cavalry you need to get the edge there. You will likely take losses no matter what you do, since the legionaries are just freakish strong, but you should be able to win somewhat comfortably using hammer and anvil like tactics.

BEAR WARRIORS! And keep quite a bit of cav, since your probably (hopefully) going to have superior cav when fighting against the Romans we should even out their heavy infantry advantage.

I figure I should tell you my usual army composition. I have lately been using 8 units of cimbri footnobles, 4 units of bear warriors, 3 units of germanic calvary, a general, and 4 units of some ranged unit. Should I switch to using 8 units of bear warriors and have a small center of footnobles to hold the line while trying to flank with the bear warriors?

Keep your BW away from missiles as they get raped by ranged.Use some HI to grind down the Frontal troops then flank with Mr.Bear.

    Dont forget the cannine-somefink cavalry.

    The has AP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGWTFBBQ!!!

Really, they totally slaughter legionaires. You can kill almost an entire cohort with a single unit of em.

I like to use the heavy swordsmen as my front-line infantry since they have good defense, can take a volley from the Roman pila, and return fire at ranged before closing ranks. Behind them are wolf and bear warriors with the general. On the flanks are heavy cavalry. I don't typically use more than one or two canninefate cavalry against the Romans because the noble cav are better in melee for prolonged combat.

Yeah that's true, I was disappointed when I saw that they didn't have that ability, you could always balance it yourself by lowering their numbers.

You can always use in-battle ambushes, like ambush in an ambush

Yeah, you ambush them in a campaign map, then again while they are marching to your troops, you ambush them again, because Cimbri are so good they can hide anywhere
