Default give general the rally button back instead of wedge formation

I have a general that does not have a rally button, he has wedge formations.. i tried looking up where this is determined but i could not find it ingame.. nor could i find anything with the search function here .. so the question, how do i give a general the rally button (which in third age seems to be a default for a general that leads the battle)??

Use "and not hidden_resource Dol_Amroth" for the regular units (assuming you are using "and hidden_resource Dol_Amroth" for the special units).

Making a new building is a good solution, IMO (you can add several bonuses to it as well). But in order to allow it to be built only in DA, it is preferrable to add hidden_resources. (if you have a look at your edb, you'll see a great example, the house_of_kings at the bottom of the file. Do not forget to add the entries to all neccesary files! ). Or you can use the advise above, if you don't want to add a unique building.

You mean disable all units for one faction? and if so what's the condition that you want to trigger it on and off?

If a unit has an alternative formation (wedge, cantabrian circle, phalanx, shield_wall, etc), then that alternative button appears instead of a rally button. Likewise artillery with secondary ammunition (exploding or fire), will not be able to have a rally button or a deploy stakes button. Alternative formations or ammunition always supersede the rally buttons, and those units will never have a rally button as far as I can tell. The only units with rally buttons are those with regular "square" formations, and specific "bodyguard" units in vanilla do not have the "wedge" formation in the unit information. Look in the EDU, and in the formation line most bodyguard units have this:

    formation 2, 4.4, 3, 6, 2, square

units with wedge enabled have this:

    formation 2, 4.4, 3, 6, 3, square, wedge

If a unit has anything other than "square" it will never have a rally button.

    EDIT:
from an error log: "A unit must always support either square, horde or phalanx formation, but 'Mailed Knights' does not." I tried to give the mailed knights a wedge formation only, but that won't work. If "wedge" is removed, then mailed knights can rally other units.
The rally button is a "special unit function," and a unit can only have one (two in the case of trebuchets firing cows).

thank you i have been testing different options with your advice and everything is working..

i took the unit which was used as bodyguard.. copied in a new entry in EDU.. changed the link by adding _BG after the unit name..
then i removed wedge formation.. then i added a hero ability in descr strat and put in a new unit info picture and unit export text.. everything works great now exactly how i wanted

sorry if my questions are silly though.. unit modding is something new for me.. thanks again for the help , really great
