Default WWII Total war! I HAVE AN IDEA!

I know that many people think that WWII concept does not work with the Total War series. In fact I thought that to, but I have an idea of how it would work.
If they use the game Men of War for the real-time battles and the usual Total War turn-based campaign for the campaign map that would be awesome. I know the Creative Assembly would pull of a relay good campaign map for a WWII game, but the game would be horribly inaccurate if they would use the usual total war battles whit large units walking packed together.
They don't need to copy Men of War´s battles completely, they could do something similar. I just thought Men of War was a really good guideline to build the new WWII battles engine for Total War: WWII!

    What do you think?

Too small scale, and WWII was much more fluid. You can't have a single engagement on the tactical level.

Modern warfare doesn't consist of decisive battles. It consists of large scale prolonged skirmishes.

The best way for Total War to reproduce WW2 would be with a frontline system, where you are constantly bringing new units to the front while the battle is raging as the turns pass. At any time, the player could enter the ongoing battle to take command of the troops and get back to the campaign map without meaning retreat. The core idea is that when two armies engage each other, there is a battle that goes on auto-resolving itself until one side looses.

However this would maybe suit better WW1... And the biggest problem is with air battles, which I think would have to be auto-resolve only. You can't control machines moving in the sky at 300 miles per hour and that can't stop in an RTS fashion. You'd have to get 7 brains or use the pause button hundreds of times.

The only way TW could move towards modern warfare would be a completely new engine and a more RTS campaign map.

Wouldn't work at all. A WW2 game would have to represent combat on a whole new scale. Men of War is tiny. At the very least it would have to be something like Theatre of War, and even that would be too small.

Basically you'd need something the size of RUSE, but much more detailed and realistic, and without basebuilding. In other words, it's virtually impossible; kind of like thatv "Civilization-TW-EuropaUniversalis hybrid that spans the length of human history" that people fantasize about.

I feel like the next logical big step for the series would be the campaign and the battles taking place on the same huge zoomable map, all in pausable real-time. It would allow for more fluid battles, shifting fronts, etc... Of course, it comes with a slew of design dilemmas and would need one hell of an interface.

i think that would destroy the TW series, not that i would automatically be bad (it probably would, the last time they gave the AI gunpowder units it was horrendous and that was with formations) but it would no longer be the turn based game combined with real time action that people have come to expect. Theres nothing wrong with innovation or evolution but thats just making sometihng completly different.

I agree with most people on why WW2 total war will not work. Men of War and Company of Heroes is better.

Care for Rome 2 Total War?

    A WW2TW raises some questions.
The thought of how bad pathfinding can be in settlements at present in TW games makes me hate to think what squad level tactics in a more modern fluid enviroment would be like.
So what is the level of unit for the actual battles?........
Are we talking about controlling individual soldiers or in smaller groups than a squad on the battlefield. and despense with the smaller scale combat of individual soldiers by going towards battalion, regiment or battlegroup...squadron...etc. For example blend the present TW series style capaign map and then the battle field have something simular to the first person shoot em up of Battlefield 1942...with more squad based organisation and layout of course on much bigger battlefield maps than at present. A first person shoot em up strategy game...wonders never cease (insert scarcasm and irony emoticon)
I keep thinking of Avalon Hills hex wargames Third Reich and Squadleader joined together would be a better example. Giving a strategy/squad based game.

But of course that example really starts to really change the TW franchise ...which isn't bad in some ways if you want a firm and a product to evolve. But is it the TW you really want to play?.

Raises alot of questions which I'm sure CA would have to brain storm in the pre development stage becasue they would have to because a ww2TW would be a radical departure in the series.
Perhaps it would be a good idea for them to start on a 19th centuary to start of WW1 period game before hand I wonder?
