    Default Quick Question

In a battle if I have more than 1 of my units attacking an enemy unit, a lot of the men just stand still in formation while only a few attack the enemy...

just wondering if it's a glitch or if it's just me not positioning my men right. I'll post a pic later, but for now it will have to be a paint version. Enjoy

Also, this is an awesome mod, got me back into RTW again, can't wait for my Legionnaires

o and I'm playing RSII 2.1a on Steam

Do you have guard mode on?
    seems liek you do.
In guard mode only the guys that are contact with the enemy will fight. the others will mind thenir own business. If u turns it off , then the others will go and join the party.

You should always try to take the time to move your units around to flank enemies who are already engaged with another of your units instead of half hitting them. i know it takes more time and they will be slightly more tired but it's totally worth it.

@lolzilla Ahhh, think you've hit the nail on the head. Yeah, I usually have my units in guard mode just so they don't go charging off after an enemy if they rout, will take it off and just keep a close eye on things.

@Doge I do try to, I just fail sometimes when there's loadsa things going on

    Cheers for the help guys

Something that someone (I can't remember who unfortunately) suggested that with your units have them advance just behind the enemy's charge, as they will march through them killing everything in their path, and all soldiers get involved that way...
Worked for me in Vanilla and RSII, I just forgot about it for this mod until someone mentioned it in an earlier thread.
This works even if your troopers are in guard mode.

    Higher troop death rate though.

True, but it seems to me that the enemy routes much quicker...
Hmm, I wonder if guard mode would have an effect on death rates with that tactic?
Or have I misunderstood guard mode? Does it add any defence bonuses or morale bonuses, or does it just affect their stance/whether or not they pursue...?

They defend more than attack and therefore have a lower kill and casualtie rate than non guard troops.

Ok, I see now...it appears that the difference between guard mode and non-guard mode has been posted semi-regularly own this particular mod forum...

Are there any other tactics that work well with Romans, other than H/A? Or does it basically become maneuvering and striking at flanks?

And at the OP, I have found that if you have the troops to support it, spreading your front rank cohorts into lines 2 men deep, so that the maximum amount of men can be fighting at once can help with that stacking issue.

But that makes your frontlines ridiculously thin, so back 'em up with standard ranked cohorts (either 6 or 8...I can't remember ) and what not...

As Romans just throw your legions at the enemy, their supposed to be a meatgrinder, nothing fancy needed.
