I'm getting such a message when I go to the battlemap. The issue is sporadic, happening occasionally during field battles and always during any siege attempt.
If anyone else has had this and solved it, what did you do?

Where did you install m2tw and SS?
can you give us the entire folder adress for SS?
also, your system log is incomplete... edit the default.cfg in the SS main directory and edit relevant entries, so that it looks like this:
[log]
to=mods/SS6.3/system.log.txt
level=* trace
;level=* error
then post again... that way we can tell if there is a specific thingie that causes the CTD...
C:/Program Files (x86)/SEGA/Medieval II: Total War/Stainless Steel/SS6.3
Here's what my corresponding default.cfg looks like:
[log]
to=../../../Program Files (x86)/SEGA/Medieval II Total War/Stainless Steel/SS6.3/system.log.txt
level=* error
;level=* trace
Alright well that looks good, but if you haven't already change it so it looks like:
;level=* error
level=* trace
Basically the semicolon 'cancels out" whichever log type it's in front of. Not sure if thats the BEST way of explaining but ah wellMoving on, you need the log that runs the "trace" instead, which is much bigger and way more thorough with the information to help pinpoint the bug.
After this you MIGHT need to play SS again until you get another CTD, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Even if you don't HAVE to, it would be the best way to get a new and detailed log for the bug hunting![]()
--Fight, and you may die. Run and you'll live....at least a while.
And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing,
to trade ALL the days from this day to that, for ONE chance, JUST ONE CHANCE!
to come back here and tell our enemies, that they may take our lives...
...but they'll never take OUR FREEDOM!!!
Alba gu brath!
SS should be installed in the medieval 2 mod folder as thus:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3
that might be the problem for you...
and as Krazy Kook says, the semi-colon must be in front of the error line and not in front of the trace...
correct... the log is created after a CTD so he needs to get one of those again...
don't know if the installer writes to the registry when installing... in that case, the SS might get unplayable (and in the worst case, unistallable)... better to just uninstall and reinstall in the mods folder so you can be sure that a CTD ain't related to moving the folder directly... (did you understand? I am quite tired now and English ain't my language)
Well I reinstalled everything over the last week, literally everything: game, expansion, patches, mod, mod patch.
Played a couple of sieges (yes they worked), but then half my files disappeared (as you already know) for seemingly no reason.
So I uninstalled SS and then reinstalled, making sure that UAC was turned off and that all of the downloaded files related to SS were not read-only files and then installed both (running the both as an administrator), but this issue has once again attacked, and now I'm going to lose York to the Scots over it.
I'll make it crash again under the same conditions and upload the log.
EDIT: Okay there it is; the original file is over 13 megabytes in size, which is a tad frightening.
Okay, so I tested my theory that it was siege equipment that was causing the crash (i.e. siege towers, ladders, etc.) by using catapults to assault (is that proper spelling, it looks odd to me) the town, but I still got the crash. I'm going to try moving the entire Medieval II folder out of Program Files (x86) and see if that fixes the problem.
Here's the most recent log if anyone is interested.
I have exactly the same problem as you Henry X. I am the Moors and I try to take rebel-held Seville early within the game. The only submods I run are Savage AI and Realistic Recruitment.
