    Default Why so little innovation?

Looking at this forum, I see that most (about 3/4) of the "projects" are suggestions in the already overcrowded greece niche. Undoubtably, few, if any, will succede due to the competition and the fact that everything has already been done there.

    Maybe move on, TWC?

    /No offense to anyone

There are many yet they each seem to tackle the subject differently, or a dev will see a way he believes he can improve over existing mods. This is a good thing, if we accepted the first mod for a time period removes any need for subsequent mods, overall the quality would be far lower. Additionally people just want to see what creating a mod is like I imagine.

Also there's so many since Ancient Greeks have received quite a lot of publicity in recent years.

But still, you can't expect much success if there are atleast two mods focusing on greeks at any given period.

Probably depends on what you define as success. Completing the mod and ensuring stability is always a great success, but due to the domination of other mods, age of the game and like you say similarities, the mods won't get a huge amount of downloads. But that isn't always the point I think.

Best of luck to them for trying though

He did not take a "greek" army. His army was fundamentally different, more influenced by the thracians and the persians. Yes, the persians.

Remember that he crushed the greeks as well.

    @Pharoh: The point being...what?

I agree with both Roach and Prince Helikaon here. There are indeed a bit too many. My advice for all of the people who propose such a mod is to learn how to mod themselves first (as that's basically why most of these "projects" die; the creator doesn't know how to mod himself).
On the other hand: survival of the fittest. The more mods we have, the more rivalry there is for the separate project. The best project will remain standing, I suppose.

the best will come out on top and better than if there was no competition as they would be trying harder to get more peoplr

A matter of taste. To me they all look the same, and not very intersting.

And they didn't really consider the Macedonians as Greek, right?

They must be referring to current day Macedonia
(No offence to people from the FYROM, of course)

Hoplite warfare was incredibly boring, especially before the Peloponnesian war. That war spiced things up a bit, bringing peltasts, heavy peltasts (some sort of early version of the Thureophoroi) and Ekdromoi + a bit of cavalry to the endless grinding of hoplite warfare.

Now, let's get back on topic

No, the ancient Macedonians were considered barbarian by the greeks, even though they spoke greek.
