Default New Laptop & I don't think it likes RTW...

    Hi,

Just bought a new laptop & have downloaded & installed new drivers for it from the SiS website.

Installed Rome: Total War, Barabarian Invasion, Alexander & Fourth Age: Total War, loaded FATW up and was hit with strange/ugly visuals in the campaign screen.

Booted up Rome: Total War (Vanilla) to see if it was a mod problem or it is universal, and was hit with the same thing. I've uploaded two screenshots to give you an idea of the problem. The first is the view when a new campaign game is freshly loaded, the second is after alt-tab'ing out of the game and back in.

I've gone through the stages at http://erado.totalwar.org/survival/perf/perfmain.htm so I'm really at a loss now.

I've an SiS Mirage 3 Graphics Adaptor (SiS 672 chipset) in this machine with 128mb of dedicated RAM. The computer overall has 2gb RAM & 1.6GHz Dualcore processor. My old machine in Australia ran a 1.7GHz processor & 64mb of onboard graphics and just about ran RTW, I was hoping for a bit more with this new one...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers!

oh dear, my old laptop also had the SIS 3 mirage graphic chip set and i'm afraid it's not designed for 3d gaming only other forms of media, when I installed rome onto my old and play a custom battle with all settings set to low (unit size on small) etc. with only 2 sqauds of 20 soliders fighting, i was getting like 4 frames per second even when fully zoomed out, and the other specs where all over exceeding. im afraid :/ that you will need a different graphics card or you could i suppose return the laptop and purchase something with a graphics card designed for gaming.

on a separate note i can get 20-25 + fps on medium to low settings on a netbook (the tiny laptop) and my graphics card has 0 dedicated memory :p 1gb ram and a dual core 1.6ghz processor.

also "Even if your chipsets appear to meet the requirements, a chipset is not the same as a card."
quoted from that rome survival thing.
