Finally started my first campaign, Hojo on hard. Take it slow for a couple of turns on my two starting regions, Imagawa declares a war on me and marches in with a big stack from the west while the neighbor minor clan from the east brings its own stack. They siege my top region and it looks like I'm done for, but I decide to play it out anyway.
Imagawa rushes up my castle and I rebuke them, then sally and drive back their archers.
His ally from the other side comes within visible range and stops.
Sits there, doesn't move.
I regroup inside the castle and wait. He doesn't move.
I bring out a unit and try to provoke him. He sends a few units but leaves most of the big army sitting there.
I perform a face palm and alt+f4 in disgust.
This is why I was so hesitant to try the game for these two weeks. I've been here before. When my first battle in MTW2 the AI refused to attack despite being the attacker. When my first battle in ETW the AI formed a single file line with all its units spanning the whole map as I watched in disbelief. Hearing all the positive impressions about the game made me buy it, but the weight of my experiences kept me cautious. I skipped NTW, so this makes it THREE total war games in a row for me where the very first battle has left a bitter taste in my mouth.
If anyone from CA is reading this, I want you to know that whatever your next game is, it's not going to lose a few of my $$ based on its merit. It's going to lose it based on this storied history.
