    Default Hording, Sacking and Settling

Just a few questions about Hording nations

    1) Is it feasible to sack a prospective city that you may plan to settle into someday? (Sack and then 20 years later, return to settle?)
    2) When should a horde start to settle?

    Whenever u feel for it...
You have a certain mentality, a "you vs them" and i know it is hard to see, but it is only your imagination which makes up enemies everywhere. I haven't professed anything but being neutral so why Do you feel the need to defend yourself from me?. Truly What are you defending? when there is nobody attacking?

if you want you can walk and walk and walk.... and walk.... and then you can make some more steps.... and then you can run lol ... j/k
well the thing is ... you can do what ever you like. you are hord and nobody will actually stop you. i suggest to make some money out of it before you satle down. when you are horde, you dont pay upkeep or thing like that... so... you can only earn, but from time to time it is good to recrute units and army... but ... the privilegy of hords is also you are free... do stupid things when you are yong, ... earn money also... then retire when and where you like =) have fun

Hmm, sacking a city you want to settle in later. Never thought of it really. I've only ever moved to Constantinople, sacked it, moved on to Rome sacking all the cities on the way, then settled in Rome. Unfortunately, it's like a generic horde thing, sack all the cities on the way to your target homeland (usually Rome or Constantinople).

But as to your second question, sack as much as you want as long as you end up in Rome or Constantinople to settle. That's if you want to play it easy anyway. Because of the lack of being a "civilised" culture, you'll probably want to choose a city with an already developed infrastructure.

I just wish I was good enough to not horde at all, and hold on to my original city (like Vicus Gothi sp? as the Goths). I think the only horde faction I've played that has it easy and doesn't need to horde is the Allemanni. :sweatingb waits for the flaming counter arguments. :sweatingb

On VH/H settings I find the Allemanii extremely difficult. WRE sends a decent size army loaded with 6+ commitases, kicks my arse in the field, sieges, then takes my one city. I've tried just about everything and every game it is the same thing. The Allemani don't have horde ability (they however should) and poof!, game over.

lol, maybe they haven't the horde ability. I never used it with them because I found them ok to play albeit only h/m. My apologies.

I guess not every faction was nomadic, or historically DID horde.

Yeah i think they are going over who horded and who didnt....
Though weird that Longoboards can horde, they really had a short walk as a horde

To horde or not to horde...

When i was still playing BI i was playing as the goths once, and after a few turns i was kicked out of my lands by the vandals/huns so i decided to move far away. I thought that the WRE was to powerful so i decided to sack every weak defended city i came across, thus crippling their economy and military power.
And later i decided to settle in spain, so i sacked every city, then attacked them again and occupied them.
And i got a really good income after a few turns and so started conquring westwards towards rome.

Another advantage I found to it, at least for initial settlements for Barbarians.

The advantage being that sacked cities lose a ton of the heathen (or in my case, horrible Roman) population, making it FAR easier for you to take over the city, even if you need to spend quite a bit of Denarii to repair your misdeeds. It becomes worth it after awhile. The initial loss is mostly recouped and if you raid like you're supposed to, with a ton of gold in your possession, you can pay off the ridiculous fees and start the process of taking over the world.

At least this is what I have found so far, I'll let you know how it works.

    1) If you sack a settlement in which you'll settle, it will be very poor, (about -3000 income) and most of the buildings will be damaged.
    2) When you'd like (better still when you have huge armies to extermine more settlements and raise income). For exemple, once, with the Ostrogoths (i modded the game to play as the Ostrogoths), i sacked the entire WRE and its rebels and destroyed it. Then i settled in Frisii and Saxones and after 30-35 more turns i accomplished the campaign.

When you settle a settlement it will be very poor because of your huge armies, a small settlement cannot afford such huge armies
