My idea for the next TW game
It is pretty obvious everyone on these forums want there to be a Rome 2 Total War. Ignore my post count, I've been on these forums since the first MTW. Have actively tested and helped with mods ever since. Here is my idea for the next TW. This has been in my head since Empire came out and introduced naval battles.
Ancient Total War (Ignore the name very subject to change)
The game would start 500 BC and run up into the height of the Roman empire. 500 BC Greece was divided in minor city states. Rome had already been founded but was having the trouble of throwing off the yoke of the Etruscan kings. Italy was divided by many warring tribes and controlled in the north by tribes from Gaul. Carthage was expanding its power throughout North Africa and would soon establish colonies in Spain. The Persian empire was vast and unchallenged. In this time period there are the seeds of every great empire that stood in the original Rome TW.
Armies would go through vast changes over the next 500 years. Greek states favored hoplite phalanxes. Persia used massed lightly armed conscripts with their true power being in their archery. In Italy men fought with short swords and spears and the beginnings of the maniple formation. The barbaric north as always favored brute strength in their tactics.
The game would have such a multitude of factions much like Shogun. Most would begin with only one city and undergo military changes throughout time. The hoplite phalanx would fall to the macedonian phalanx. These could be controlled by triggers, much like the marian reforms of Rome TW. The original Europa Barborum comes to mind.
Now for the naval battles, despite loving this era because the diversity of cultures and warfare tactics; naval battles are what truly gave me the idea for this game. Naval battles were fought mainly by ramming enemy boats in this time period. The great ambush of the Persian fleet at Salamis comes to mind. Now how cool would it be trying to ram enemy boats in game? Yeah pretty cool. It wasn't until later when the Romans began large scale boarding maneuvers did naval warfare change significantly. A LOT cooler than the naval battles presently in Shogun.
Throw me your thoughts and ideas. I simply want to expand on a Rome 2 idea, because I really think it will be their next game.... if they have any brains that is.. but it is CA..
