    Default Please help with export_descr_character_traits

I just want to edit some traits and triggers for american companion
    What I do :
    1) Unpack and put export_descr_character_traits.txt into \mods\americas\data folder
    2) Edit export_descr_character_traits.txt
    3) add
    [io]
    file_first = true
to medieval2.preference.cfg and set "read only"

But I don't see any effects It looks like the game still uses original export_descr_character_traits.txt. Anyone can tell me what I do wrong ?

What changes did you make to export_descr_character_traits? How do you know that nothing changed?

    First, sorry for my English
I removed negative effects from all corruption Triggers, but if I have > 50000, my family members get those effects.
Also I removed negative effects from some traits (Effect Unrest from Trait Prim, for example, but in-game then I see Prim trait, it still has Unrest effect)
I did the same for RTW, it works fine

Did you edit export_VnVs.txt? If not things like the Prim trait will still read the old effects even if it isn't a valid effect. What do you mean by you removed negative effects from all corruption triggers? Triggers don't assign effects, they assign traits (or ancillaries) which have effects.

    Thanks for help Squid
    I didn't edit "export_VnVs.txt"
Before I used filter to unpack .txt files only, and "export_VnVs.txt didn't" exist. Now I did full unpack, but /data/text folder has "export_vnvs.txt.strings.bin" file, not "export_VnVs.txt" . And I can't just rename it because it's not text file What do I have to do with it ?
    I have M2TW Gold Edition
    Once again, thanks for help

Use the strings.bin convertor with Python 2.6.

    Ok
    - I use strings.bin convertor (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=73817) with Python 2.6.
and placed export_vnvs.txt into /mods/americas/data/text/ folder

    - I removed unrest effect from Prim trait
    Original Prim:
    ...
    Level Proper_Morals
    Description Proper_Morals_desc
    EffectsDescription Proper_Morals_effects_desc
    Threshold 1

    Effect Authority 1
    Effect BribeResistance 2
    Effect Unrest 1
    Effect Law 1
    ...
    My editing
    ...
    Level Proper_Morals
    Description Proper_Morals_desc
    EffectsDescription Proper_Morals_effects_desc
    Threshold 1

    Effect Authority 1
    Effect BribeResistance 2
    Effect Law 1
    ...
    etc.

    - edit export_vnvs.txt
    Original:
{Proper_Morals_effects_desc}+1 Authority, 20% increase to cost to bribe, +1 to unrest (has a negative effect on public order), +1 to law (improves public order)
    My editing :
{Proper_Morals_effects_desc}+1 Authority, 20% increase to cost to bribe, +1 to law (improves public order)

The same for other levels of Prim.

Like I sad in my first post, I have this code in medieval2.preference.cfg (read-only) :
    [io]
    file_first = true

    But it doesn't work
In-game Prim still has Unrest in description

Delete the old export_VnVs.txt.strings.bin file, if a new one isn't created when you start the game you've done something wrong.

    @Chandr
Download the attachment it has a bat file & it's corresponding .cfg file for americas, launch the game from the .bat file and see if the changes are taking place then.

Ishan, it didn't help, but thanks anyway.
And I suppose I know what the problem is.
My new "export_descr_character_traits.txt" works fine (I did some experiments with triggers and I saw these trigger effects in-game)
But the game still uses original export_vnvs.txt. And I think it's because original pack contains export_vnvs.txt.strings.bin instead of export_vnvs.txt. Different file names, so I have to convert my export_vnvs.txt back to export_vnvs.txt.strings.bin somehow. I don't know how yet.

The game will convert it. Check the time stamp in computer. If the string.bin is older it did not convert. Move it to your desktop so the game can hopefully generate you a new one. If it does not generate, you have errors in the .txt.

I unpacked files to temp folder. In the game folder I placed only export_descr_character_traits and export_vnvs.txt. So, my /data/text folder now contents only 2 files : my export_vnvs.txt and gFactionIntroSubTitles.txt.strings.bin generated by the game (I have no idea why)
It's means my export_vnvs.txt have errors? But from what ? I edit only one line there (Prim effects) , that's it. Or string.bin converter converts with errors ?

Delete the .Bin file and after that is it regenerating when you launch the game?

If you mean that gFactionIntroSubTitles.txt.strings.bin , yes.

No i meant you edited export_vnvs.txt right? so delete it's relevant bin file that is export_vnvs.txt.strings.bin file and see if it regenerates.

    Finally, I did it !
    But it's really strange.
I already sad before, I didn't unpack files into my game folder, I did it to temp folder. And I copied only 2 files - export_descr_character_traits and export_vnvs.txt (which are I edited) into the game folder.
So, the /data/text folder contented export_vnvs.txt only. And for some reason, the game didn't create export_vnvs.txt.strings.bin .
Now, I copied original export_vnvs.txt.strings.bin into /data/text folder, launched the game - and the game replaced export_vnvs.txt.strings.bin for new one.
    Everything works now

Thanks all a lot , I fill happy now
