    Icon8 Kingdoms patch crash

Hi, I've recently been trying to install my M2TW game again. When I install it, and thereafter patch it to 1.05 it won't work. It's either the damn mss32.dll file that's missing or it doesn't somehow recognize my CD, even though I just used it to install the wretched game!

I seriously need some help. I'm using gold version and I find the choice of patch version to be seriously confusing. I live in Sweden(I'm telling this because I suppose I would choose the EU patch, but it doesn't seem to work for me, so I try to provide as much info as I can).

This is how it's been so far:
1: I install the game and the version is 1.03(as I've read, it should be).
2: I try to install the 1.05 patch, it seems as if it gets installed - however when I open the game and check options, it still says my version is 1.03.

For the record, every time I try to start the launcher, I get an error sign. Where I can choose to check details, continue or quit. I choose continue since I don't understand anything of what the detail-list contains. I've tried to google this problem but SEGA seems to be turteling with the information or something. Their official site is just plain stupid - all links other people put up leads to their start-page and from there, there are just too many things that show up when I search. It doesn't matter what kind of link-path the link has, it still goes to their start-page.

I'm sorry to bother you with this, but please could anyone give me a dummies guide to install this? I remember that I experienced trouble installing the game before too(about a year ago). How come this is the only TW game that I've ever experienced any vanilla(non-mod) trouble with?

1.05 are only for kingdoms expansions. The regular grand campaign will remain 1.03 despite the fact that you've installed kingdoms patch 1.05

I might be wrong, so someone might correct me.

    Is that so?

But howcome after I install the patch, it request a CD despite it already being in? I have 2 CDs, I tested both of them and it still requests it. As far as I know, this really shouldn't be happening. And what about that damn 'mss32.dll' file that's supposivly "not on my computer"? How am I supposed to tackle that one?

I've seen this before. Some people have reported success by downloading the .dll file from Microsoft and putting it in their win32 folder.

I see that you have a SecuRom warning as well. Do you have any disc emulation software on that system? Any disc burning software? You may have some type of program that is tripping up the ridiculously sensitive SecuRom DRM.

Sorry, I have no idea what dxdiag is. I'd guess you mean that I should print screen the M2TW folder?

Edit; I've now installed the game again, however I won't patch it until I recieve help with that respective issue. Since I've already reinstalled trice and I'm not doing it again - yet. Anyways, the game is working now that I havn't tried to patch it - but like I said, when I'll patch it, it will break. Thus I need your help.

However I took a screen shot of the error sign I mentioned earlier, this always comes up when I'm starting the launcher(even through double-clicking the M2TW main-game(not any of the mini-campaigns).

I'll give you my way and see if it works for you. If some you have done sounds redundant, sorrry.

    1. Disable the UAC. http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/1...-in-windows-7/
    2. Take ownership of everything Windows will let you. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397636
    3. Uninstall starting with the Kingdoms campaigns.
    4. Delte all Medieval II Total War folders. If you installed with the UAc on and default location, you will have two - Program Files (x86) and %appdata% and you will have to unhide all files and folders to find both.
    5. Run a good registry cleaner. My choice is Eusing Registry Cleaner. Others prefer Ccleaner.
    6. Reboot.
    7. Install Medieval2 in C:\Games to get away from Windows Security.
    8. Install Kindoms, all campaigns. The Medieval2 patches are on the disc and the installer will prompt you when they show up.
    9. Start a campaign in each just to see if they work. No farther then the faction selection screen will do.
    10. Install the patch. Be aware they are in Gold and non-Gold versions.

    Good luck.

Thanks alot for all your help! I'll get back with some result soon enough, thanks for taking your time helping out.

Edit; I've gotten as far as to step 10. However, since I've become a bit paranoid when it comes to this game - I'd love to know which one of the gold patches I should download, I live in Sweden for the records, which(if you didn't already know) is located in Europe. I would assume I should download the EU-gold patch. This gold patch should be 1.05 if I'm not mistaken, right? And for the records - I should in no way at all download the M2TW/Kingdoms 1.05 patch, correct? I should only download the gold-specific 1.05 patch, correct?

If any of these are wrong, please say what I should do instead. Like I said, normally I wouldn't bother with this "idiocy", but I've grown paranoid of handling this game, and I've already reinstalled it so many times that one more would probably be more damaging for the disc rather than helpful(if you understand what I mean ).

Once again, thanks alot for your help!

If it works, make a backup of the full Medieval2 folder someplace safe first.

I am assuming you are looking at http://help.sega.com/index.php?_m=do...215&nav=0,1,19. There is no EU Gold patch listed. If you have the Gold Edition, you may have to try all of them. I believe most success has been the UK Gold patch in this case.

I read in the thread 'Wrong disc inserted?' that I was supposed to check in the 'properties > details' which language I had. When I checked it said that I had the 'Brittish english' version, so I searched for the UK(United Kingdom) patch on google and I found one.

    Here's the link:

P.S; I created a back-up folder called 'Games 2 (Backup)' in the 'C:\' path. Full path being; C:\Games 2 (Backup)

While my original path being; C:\Games\Sega

I shouldn't come across any problems depending on where I put my backup-folder, should I?

Alright, now I've tried to install this patch, but I'm starting to get a little bit frustrated over incredible sensitivity and poor lay-up made by the company for this patch.

The attacked file says following translated from swedish:

    Kingdoms

Wrong CD/DVD disc in the reader.
Put in the original CD/DVD disc "Kingdoms".
    See http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=wrongdisc&l=sw for more information.

How can this game be so poorly patch-supported? I mean, I've never experienced any trouble with any other TW game. It's a good thing this way to go about things didn't get inherited by the other games.

Edit: P.S; It seems that the grand campaign works as if nothing happened - both in the map I tried to patch and the backup, it's the kingdoms expansions which are causing the troubles.

It seems to have something to do with the new dvd-roms and the old dvd burning format and combing both .exes on the same disc. You are far from alone and I have no answer.

    In this order:L
Try to find a firmware update for your dvd-rom.
Contact Sega support and see if you can get an answer out of them.
Contact www.securom.com to see if you have anything conflicting.

Well nothing works and let's just say I'm more or less discontent about it. Anyways, I overwrote the "would-be" patched folder with my backup so that I can forget this whole ordeal, I'm in luck though - some of the mods(that I've checked up upon as of yet) seem to have a 1.04 version. Still, CA/Sega or whatever was responsible for this embarrasing charade should make damn sure they won't repeat it. The only way people seem to be able to patch this game, is not through any of their help anyways - their ability to patch seem to come from people like you who help out. Sadly I'm not one of them, I'll just have to make do with what I've got it seems.

    Thanks for everything anyways!

Another story. when the patch was first released the US version was actually UK's. It took them three days and seven still readable forum pages before the official US patch was released. There were at least four other pages deleted. Part of those posts were mine.

Sorry to interrupt. But have you considered buying the game on Steam. Its only 10 euro for MTW II and 5 euro for Kingdoms. Then you don't have to patch the game.

But good luck trying to get it to work.

As long as the old dvds work, not me.
