Default Fraps Issues - Calling for aid from all Fraps commentators and video makers !

    Hello all,

Hopefully some of you know that I make commentary videos for ETW, NTW and now S2TW, perhaps some of you are some of my fantastic Subscribers on youtube. Now I need your help in sorting out a techinical issue which has plagued me of late!

If you would kindly watch the first few minutes of this video you will understand my issue:

    http://www.youtube.com/user/lionhear.../3/1rCb6Lt_1zo

That is that when I record with fraps I get a 'kick' every so often, I can't really describe this 'kick' which is why I've linked you to a video which shows said 'kick'.

This causes a brief yet annoying lag when recording with fraps which I would like to resolve.

    My PC's specs:

    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T OC @3.5Ghz
    Windows 7 HP 64bit
    4GB 1337Mhz RAM
    1TB Hard Drive
    Nvidia GTX 570

Now many people have suggested that I try another hard drive in my PC and record onto that rather than record onto the same HDD that the game is running from, I will be able to try this in a about 1 week when I borrow my brothers spare HDD. However I never used to get this 'kick' on my older PC, which only had 1 HDD and far lower spec than my new PC. I don't think it can be graphics card related as I've literally just upgraded from a ATi 5770 to an Nvidia GTX570, I have cleaned all the drivers so theres no confliction there but also I got this kick when I had the 5770 too. I would just like to work out what's going on.

My brother has a pretty similar PC although he has an i7 920 instead of a 6 core AMD, which I know the i7 is clearly more powerful, however like me he only has one HDD and records Fraps without this 'kick', is that the work of the i7 that he has? I just find it hard to believe that my new PC gets this kick when my older quad core and GTS 250 PC did not.

I'd really like some help from other fraps users, perhaps someone has had this issue also and can help? I've been through to graphics cards and both get the 'kick', I will soon try another HDD in a week or so but in the meantime does anyone else have any ideas that can fix this?! I know plenty of other commentators that only record to one HDD and I have like 500GB free space so I can't work this out. Is this something to do with my AMD 6 core, is it that bad? lol

I should note that without fraps I'm maxing out games with no 'kick', its only when I try to record that I get it. And also this 'kick' occurs in all of my games not just TW games.

So please if anyone can shed some light on this I'd love to know please !

right lools like micro-stuttering. could be fraps polling? use msi afterburner and try that and remove fraps. see if it does the same thing. (or run the game without fraps on)

p.s an older version of msi afterburner did this to me with empire and after i got my head ripped off by the creator he actually admitted some versions of fraps/msi afterburner could cause units to stutter...

worth using driver sweeper and trying diff drivers if fraps is a must for u.

I've tried recording with MSi afterburner same thing, plus the kick only happens when I record, so no stutter / kick when its not running so its only a problem for when I try to record. I might try an old version of fraps if I can. Perhaps thats my issue seeing as it occured on both my ATi 5770 and now my Nvidia GTX 570.
