    Default Error (CTD) Non-Existent Unit

    Hi guys

    So i've been playing Stainless Steel 6.4 and i haven't had any problems until i went to play a couple of nights ago. When i tried to load a battle it would have the load screen with the picture then the picture would disappear and just leave the loading sword loading and loading etc. I did a clean install of Medieval, Kingdoms and Stainless Steel 6.3 and 6.4 and tried to load my old saves and same problem.

    I'm running Windows Vista but that hasn't been a problem in the past. Heres the Error Log.

    Sorry also no Submods though i did try to install another mod a while back which didn't work hence i did the clean install after i tried to play Stainless Steel 6.4 again and encountered the problem.

    Have you disabled the UAC? If not, do this before you install the game...


    also, is this really the whole log? usually, if you have had a CTD, there should be a line at the end that shows that the game got terminated, but it is missing here... it does seem though that the campaign script is referring to units which labels are invalid... have you been altering any text files? like the CS, EDB, EDU?

    If the game stopped working after the mod you described, the problem might lay there... I would recommend uninstalling the game, DELETE the SS 6.3 folder and re-install... if you did that, then try to re-install the entire Kingdoms game and don't forget to delete the extra folders that usually don't get deleted during an unintall....

    Yes i've disabled UAC

    The game doesn't so much as CTD just more it continues to try and load these files so i alt - tab out of the game at which point it crahes.

    I've completed the uninstall then deleted all remaining files then i reinstalled it all from scratch then when it still didn't work i uninstalled SS 6.3 and deleted the folder and tried again still no luck.

    I haven't edited any of the files nor have i added and submods or units etc they are all normal SS 6.4 units the main units i've tried using in a battle are Syrian Auxilliaries and Spear Militia Vs just more Spear Militia so it just doesn't add up.

    So it seems i've solved the problem(s)

    1 Anti-Analysing was stopping me from loading the battles (Not sure why but oh well) simple fix turn it off.
    2 My in game resolution (1920x1024) was causing the battles once loaded to crash simply by reducing it to a lower resolution (1280x1024) fixed this problem (Also noted i could increase the resolution back to what it was and still have it work :S)

    I was just going to start a new topic, as I've just gotten my first "unspecified error," but I peeked at this and it's EERILY similar to what I'm getting.

    But the REALLY weird thing is, my battlemap loads fine. My army is there, general gives his speech, blah blah, deployed units, but as SOON as I hit the "Start Battle" the game crashed. Here's the log:

    It looks similar because I'm getting the same errors with Imperial units! And they ARE in the battle, as my allies (I'm England). So is something all effed up with them? I'll try what worked for Ka3akh in the meantime. If anyone knows what this means I'd love help

    Could you please upload your savegame?

    It's some engine's incapibilities that cause it, scripts launch after reinforcements arrive ( I even introduced scripts delay...).
    Are reinforcements delayed? Do you play with unlimited_men_on_battlefield = 0 option?

    Labelling errors don't cause CTDs, your log is missing more extended info, you'd need to find default.cfg in SS main dir and edit relevant entries, so that it looks like this:

    Hello sir, thanks for the quick reply! By the way, offtopic here for a sec, but just yesterday I probably had one of the best battles I've ever had. And the AI beat me. It was so freakin satisfying, and I know you do a lot of work on the BAI so I just wanted to let you know how amazing it is

    To your first request, how would I upload a savegame exactly? I'm not too sure. Is it just in the saves folder of SS6.3 and then I upload the particular save?

    About the reinforcements, I THINK they are delayed, they are when they're my own anyway. I did check and I actually have unlimited_men_on_battlefield=1. What does that mean for reinforcements? (I'm really just curious, cause I know it should be 0 or 1, forget which number means what, damn computers)

    when you change the bold part, the systemlog should provide extended info... so do these changes, play the game, and when/if the CTD happens again, post your log here...

    Alright, good to know!

    I think I made the necessary changes in the .cfg file, and I went back and tried the battle again. Unfortunately, it still CTD'd. Another observation I made though was that it crashed literally RIGHT as the reinforcement notification was dropping down the screen. I've had absolutely no other problems with SS, the campaign, or custom battles so I'm just wondering if the problem is isolated with Imperial units, or friendly AI reinforcements from other factions, or what.

    Here's the log, now with trace! I dont know if I needed to post all of it. If NOT I'll gladly cut it down and post the relevant parts in the post so it's easier to read.

    I've been hunting for this CTD reason for a long time, but I never got "lucky" enough to reproduce it, please zip savegame made before battle and upload it, telling me what I should atack\wait for would also help. If you could attach your campaign_script.txt (found in SS6.3\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\) it'd also help.

    It's definitely reinforcements causing the issue.

    Oh man! Haha seems like I've stumbled across quite the elusive bug here! But yeah I can get you those files Germanicu5.

    @preacher, looks like you also had the right idea! Campaign script comin up!

    @Germanicu5, I'm uploading an updated save for you! The battle that gives me a CTD is just outside of Caen in northern France. There's a large French army led by a family member to the east of Caen, and a small army of the HRE beside him. I have come out of Caen with most of my army to fight the French, and my German allies are backing me up in the battle. It should be set so that my army is one "spot" west of the French one and ready to attack.

    Stupid reinforcements!! I was getting the same feeling, so hopefully it's easy to fix! I continue to have my mind BLOWN by the way. Watching my allies come over to help me deal with the French was incredible, the AI is so dang GOOD! Damn!!

    Hello there

    I seem to also have a similar bug as Krazy Kook, my UAC is off, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled Medieval total war+ kingdoms+ stainless steel 6.3 and 6.4, but have had no luck in fixing this problem.
    At the moment, I am playing as England, early Era, around turn 200, and in the battle I'm playing, it is me against 3 Aragon armies, 2 of which are of course reinforcements.
    The battle loads fine, and my captain gives the speech and the battle starts, but ALWAYS, after 5 minutes, the battle just freezes.
    Its really disappointing that this bug is happening this far into my campaign , and help would be GREATLY appreciated please .

    @Gilinathas, oh dang! That seriously sucks big time man, especially for you, you're a lot farther into the campaign than I

    Also odd that you're having crashes with the reinforcements. But when you were saying that the battle lasts for 5 minutes, do you ever get to use your reinforcements? Or wait theyre from Aragon...well do THEY ever get a chance to use their reinforcements in those 5 minutes? I ask because mine crashed as soon as the reinforcements entered, wondering if you ever got to see the reinforcements in your battle.

    I'm beginning to hate the word "reinforcements" hahahha But back on topic, if anyone has any further advice or suggestions that would be awesome! OR if one is bored and has extra spare time any tests of the save would be amazing!! Thank you!

    It's included with latest AI and will be available via SS setup program if installed correctly.

    It works as described, so you need to: tick it, load game, go through CTDing battle (if succesful it means the CTD was somehow related to text files, if not I can't influence it), save game, untick CTD fix.

    i had a similar error, simply reinstalling 6.4 worked to correct it BUT even though i am not getting CTD's my log is recording every line with an error regarding almost always the campaign script... just wondering what the errors might be and if they are causing some unseen problem whilst on the surface verything works fine(or so it seems). ill upload my campaign script that is being used(it is unmodded) and my save game in case that helps. i guess ultimately its fine, im just confused as to why there are so many errors listed...

    my TATW system log does the same thing...but again no problems with gameplay at all....
