    Fairly balanced.
Infinite, the game goes on until 1500 in early and 1620 in late.(thats the time to win the game.)
If you have lots of settlements you'll have more children.

no, the game will start in 1100 and go till 1500 if you choose the Early Era Campaign. 400 turns.
Late Era campaign will start in 1220 and go on till 1620. 400 turns.
    you have plenty of time.

i like that MTWII uses lots of cavalry, and that knights are waaay stronger than most Rome Total War heavy cav,. It gives MTWII "flavor" of sorts. SS ai does use a lot of cavalry, usually as much as it can recruit.

but the ai is woefully ignorant on how to actually use cavalry. give me a generals bodyguard and two units of feudal knights, and i can destroy. whereas the ai will just send them straight into some pikes, and understands little about withdrawing cavalry for multiple charges

no, you can't. sorry. late and early campaigns are two separate things. you should definitely be able to win in 400 turns.

The question is: are you really going to play that many turns? You'll probably win by 1500 unless you are completely inept.

Some people play -very- slowly, roleplaying out their games. Has nothing to do with their command ability.

Well then I'm even more confused. If we roleplay, then they would feel even more pressed to expand since the game's sense of scale and time are a tad mismatched.

You can play for as many turns as you want, but if you complete the campaign objectives in 400 turns, you get a message saying "Victory!". You can keep playing after that.

I've only managed the patience to sit and click end turn repeatedly from a late era campaign to arrive at that point though... did it with Venice once and gave up everything except Venice and Ancona and then waited 300 turns auto winning battles to get there. Was quite fun when finally started playing but it wore out my patience to ever try it again with another faction. Really, really looking forward to WIP.

I've never played to infinity either, but yeah, there's no limit.

At that point though you might as well switch to Third Age Total War; your technology is advancing at about the same rate.

Yes a good Late Late Era campaign at 1370 would be excellent. I doubt I'd play anything else.

    Hmm . . .

    Anywho, moving on.

As to the original poster, I have tested this, and the time limit for winning is only that, the time limit for winning.

I have played along until I reached the year 1800+ before I got truly bored of hitting "next turn." While you can exceed the time required to win, it will not end your campaign, just like if you win you can click "continue playing."

The last technological change however is in the year... Actually it is random. it will happen anywhere from the year 1580 to 1600.
