    Default Resolution change causes ctd

I have been getting this for a few days, its extremely annoying and it isnt just the resolution change, but it almost always happens when I do a resolution shift.I have the newest drivers, etc - I had to upgrade my bios just to get the game to work, so maybe this is my own wierd problem.I love this game though, its my favorite game ever and I hope these quirks get worked out, I can barely afford my internet so upgrades are out of the question.4850 512mb (11.2)4gb Windows xp 32bit sp3E7500 2.93ghz processor (not pin modded yet, but if mobo's dont come down might do this so I can squeeze more juice) (EDIT: what happened to all my paragraphs???)

4850s run very hot, as you surely know. First thing is to check the temps......then just get on with it and whip the card out and get an old toothbrush or something in there and get every bit of crap out of the fan and assembly (I'm assuming you haven't already).

That has to be the first thing to check on 4850s, I'd say. Let's hope that's the issue, else it going to get trickier to diagnose after that.

I notice you have 4Gb on XP32..... 2 sticks of 2GB? try without one of them? Higher res takes more memory - changing res will alter memory use. So that points to RAM issues.

Why not leave the resolution alone? Or set it in preferences script?

    x_res 1280; # x_res <int32>, Fixed window width #
    y_res 960; # y_res <int32>, Fixed window height #

always run your res at its native res thats the maximum it can do. you shouldnt need to change it.

running a lower res is a waste of what you should be seeing on screen.

if you are lagging could be that your gpu is 2 weak for the resulution you are playing at.

    Hi there.
What Headache said. Do not try to use a higher resolution than the original one of your screen. Especially not using a "medicore" GPU like the 4850 when it only has 512mb to work with. Going higher on resolution than screen originally allows for, means the need for a very high end GPU with tons of ram.

highest res should always be the native res so therefore thats what you should be on.

    i.e 24inch = 1920x1200...

    Hi there.
I have a 21inch screen that I run in, well guess what, 1920 x 1200. And it runs fine......But I also use a GTX580 1.5 GB. So it can be done with the right GPU.
But yes, it is recommended to stick to the "native" resolution of your screen.
