Imgur is a strong host in my book; long lasted, simple, and importantly (playing back to my first bit). Alternatives like google drive and discord I've taken to for being extremely simple and seemingly quite reliable, though I don't truly trust them. Hosting locally on-site as much as possible is usually the most advisable option, but the friendliness of those options here leave something to be desired. But, if you want to finagle with TWC, it's in theory the most reliable option.

In practice we can only hope history doesn't repeat itself and leave things worse off.

Images disappearing is a leading cause of AARs and scriptorium entries losing value over time. I can only advise in relation to the above that you are best suited keeping up with backups and alternative sources. Not much to be done to backdate your AARs so those backups come in handy, but even for more 'handy' things like a signature it's good to keep up. Eliminating text from AARs altogether would be overkill, but there is strong merit to not making an AAR that is going to fall apart without pictures for context.

The Writers' Study Yearly Awards are here once again!

Nominate all your favourite AAR/CW writers and Best Newcomers in the nominations thread here

Also do not forget to enter our regular Competions the MAARC, MCWC and TotW 293: Tyrant and our 2nd Occasional Competition: Seedship.

Let's make the Yearly Awards as fun as last year with many submissions showering all our friends in the WS with the praise they deserve!

Would it be all right if we solicited names of newcomers here on the chat thread? I ask because while I can think of AAR and CW writers who I like and would nominate, there are some good folks I know who are new and I don't know about it, and there may be new folks who are good but that I don't know (I paraphrased this sentence from Bilbo Baggins a bit ). Just wondering if this would be allowable, to help us get to know the newlings!

An alcoholic Swaeft would be better than an absent one.

Yes, that's okay, thanks for asking.

I know that it can be difficult to work out who is a newcomer, since someone could have been on TWC for several years and have only started writing AARs or CW in the last year (but we might wonder if they wrote something several years ago).

Everyone is invited to post your nominations for the Writers' Study Yearly Awards, and if you're a newcomer (if you posted your first substantial AAR or CW in the Study during the last year), you're invited to say so here on the chat thread.

As well as the Yearly Awards, we have a lot of other competitions available - Tale of the Week, the MAARC, the MCWC and the second Occasionsl Writing Competition. Entering competitions can be a good way to introduce yourself to other writers here and to encourage others to read your material.

    I'm a sporadic T.W.C. member.

Does anybody like Norman Mailer, Christopher Hitchens, or George Orwell?

I'd never heard of Swaeft (and, in-fact, thought it was a mis-type of 'Swift', as in "Jonathan Swift"). I'm glad to see I was wrong. His screenshots are ing good.

Does anyone watch Legend of Total War? I like him, but sometimes he comes across as arrogant.

    Take care,

George Orwell is a positive familiar name for me. The others don't ring a bell, though my literary exposure is spotty, so that means little.

Could I have the room's attention please? Thank you.

We're halfway through the nomination period for the Yearly Awards with only three nominations at the present. If you haven't thought about your nominations yet, now would be the time to start thinking. If you are already thinking about it and have an incomplete list you can always post it in the Yearly Awards Nominations thread and fill it up later, as long as the final update is before 11:59 GMT+0 on the 31th of October. Remember you don't have to nominate in every category to post a nomination. Every kind of nomination is greatly appreciated!

Let's get those nominations rolling in!

    Thank you!

The Newcomer, I'd feel a bit... weird but as for AAR and Creative that I liked, they already are nominated. Should I just nominate them again?

I had to read Animal Farm and 1984 for literature. Great writer! Also you'd be right G Ward, I actually wanted to spell swift but thought it was too unoriginal Thanks and see you around!

If I couldn't find anything else I liked, that's what I'd do. People like to know that other people enjoy their work, and being nominated more than once shows them you appreciate them. So I think people will like it if you nominate them - even if somebody else already did that.

(Yes, I know; I still haven't posted my nominations either. I must remember to do that before it's too late... )
