hm. I have never head of the battle of Trenton, so I'd ignore the theme and focus on the keywords exclusively. Would that be all right?

So yeah, Cookie, go for it!

It's always been accepted socially before now, and personally I'll be disappointed if the social conventions in the WS have changed, because some of my favourite TotW entries from past competitions have ignored the theme. If you have an idea that fits the keywords, I agree with Turk - you should go for it!

Note on the start of voting: since a couple of people are intending to post submissions, I will definitely not post the poll thread till the afternoon of Thursday 12th March (GMT) at the earliest. Good luck to everyone!

I'm sorry we won't have the pleasure of an entry from you this time. We'll hope you'll be able to enter TotW again in the future, though.

Yeah thanks. I just wanted to say that so that no one needs to wait. I'm stuffed with work right now, so that's kind of a priority.

Voting has now begun in Tale of the Week 294: Battle of Trenton!

Even if you weren't able to participate by entering this competition, we'd like to encourage you to vote - all forms of participation are valuable.

Cool, I'd like to be in this gang, but I sadly can't confirm that I am none of these people. You see, I am one of them. You'll never guess which one!

(Derc, Cookiegod, kilowolf359 and Cailag Da Bulldozer, our secret is out! We will need to move location to the other secret base, the one we weren't using before. )

Our? Referring to yourself in plural, are you? We all know you're just you, not you. (Hah, plural vs singular you joke)

Three brave writers have entered in the Battle of Emperors!

I'm looking to post the voting thread soon (2 or 3 days) so if anyone feels like joining TotW 295: Emperor, or is still working on something, now is the time to make yourselves known.

    Happy writing!

Join us in congratulating the winner of Tale of the Week 294: Battle of Trenton!

With 4 entries now, we begin the vote for TotW 295 Emperor. Go read these lovely pieces of writing and vote for your favourite entry! Enjoy!

I know Turk just posted this a short bit ago, but I must say, everyone go read the entries for TotW 295: Emperor right now. That is the best crop of stories I think I have ever witnessed in a TotW competition since I first came to these walks almost two years ago. Each one is poignant, sharp, and just perfect in its own way. Do not miss out on the material these ladies and gentlemen have given us the privilege of reading!

(Disclaimer: I submitted one of the stories, and I do not mean mine is necessarily awesome, but I can say for sure that the other three are gold!)

I'd like to echo Kilo11's point about the best crop of stories. Those before have been great, but this batch feels truly exceptional. I am very impressed by all of them. Many thanks to the WS staff who came up with the theme!
