It's not an easy process. A good place to start is some of the threads in this forum, and if you have questions, remember to ask them in this forum. Good luck, as I promise you it will continue to be extremely frustrating.

My knowledge of the subject is very limited, but I'm fairly certain sprites are among the last steps. If you want to make a scratch unit you need to start with a milkshape model.

Don't get discouraged, it's actually not that hard, the only issue is modding takes some time if you're not experienced enough.

Modeling is not always that hard. It depend on the quality of the object that you are trying to make. A human character is quit difficult to make because of the complicated form and the fact that we see every day people in our live means that we see the most slight mistakes. It disturbs us when it does not look human or realistic. If You never have any experience with modeling anything I suggest that you first start with some easy objects like simple furniture or houses .

This after al is just a suggestion of me from my point of view on your situation, so it is possible that I am wrong.

Perhaps there are more advanced people on this forum who can help you. It have be a time ago that I modeled and textured objects. For start I don’t even know what program the models need to be exported to use them for in game and how you place a skeleton on a object perfectly.
