Default How to unite the romans?

I want to erase the brutii and scipii from IceTorque's Barebone v1.4 map and just left the julli as unified roman faction with all the provinces from the other roman families. Senate should remain.

I basically got no experience in map editing, but basically - by thinking it over - it seems not so difficult to me. Imho I would just have to...

1.) Open the "descr_strat.txt" within the campaign folder
2.) Erase the scipii and brutii from the "playble" list
3.) Change all scipii and brutii provinces to julii (guess the stationed units can remain the same, as they're roman)

But it may be a little more difficult!?! Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks in advance. :original:

You are right, but it is also necessary to change the names of the generals garrisoning the former scipii and brutii settlements.
Just to make it easy, you can delete the scipii and brutii family trees, and substitute the leader, heir and named characters by simple generals, looking for names in descr_names.

I'm not sure if it is necessary, but better delete also those factions at the end of descr_strat, in the diplomacy section.

    Good luck!

    Mhm....ehrm...yeah.

I think I don't understand that. I just looked into the descr_strat and there's no hint where the different generals are garissoned. It's a bit weird, the descr_strat just defines the generals, but how does it place them in a specific settlement?

Guess from this point I could need a good turorial. You know any?

Oh it surely defines the postitions of the characters.
    For example:

    Code:
    character Brennus, named character, leader, command 0, influence 0, management 0, subterfuge 0, age 52, , x 66, y 106
The x and y are coordinates of the map. So you have to look on the map which pixel it is and change it.

Ehrm...how can I display coordinates ingame? Guess this is not possible? Is there any map editor...maybe this "TIME" editor from the new NTO?

You can, there is a console command that can do this.

Thanks for the info. If I find time I'll look into it tomorrow.

Another question: Why not just take the character entries from the scipii / brutii and put it under the julii characters? I mean, there's nothing that marks them as "brutii" character. Guess the faction affiliation is determinded just by the province owner...

    Possible?

You would have to redo the julii family tree to get that working. Godzilla, if you want ill send you my version of descr_strat for the imperial campaign. I've removed the senate but they shouldn't be too hard to re implement.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Thanks for the offer lusted, but I'll take repman's files as these are a bit closer to my modded rtw. For instance the province names should be the same I guess...

Also thanks for the link to the tutorial PatWest. As I know myself it's most likely the last option for me. Learning by doing is my thing, learning by learning is so boring  .

It's not a tutorial. They are 2 different downloads to unify rome along with a few other changes. They are for both RTW versions of IceTorques maps. But they will serve as a guide or moddable file for your purposes if you don't care for every change.

You can try this, it's real close to what you want and can be modded or used as a guide.

I've never got any feedback other than from IceTorque so let me know if you have any problems.
