How do I adjust the size of a single unit?
Ok, basically I want to make the Kisho Ninja unit bigger. Why? Because it costs 250 gold per turn but cannot do ANYTHING.
Honestly, it is a cool concept unit, but in all practicality it's completely useless. It gets mobbed by bigger units, it lacks the 'fire support' versatility of fire bomb throwers, the stealth wears off before they actually get close enough to an enemy to do any damage, they apparently dont gain any bonuses at night, and I have yet to find a single effective use for them.
I've tried using them to sneak up and open castle gates. No such luck, they're not stealthy enough. I've tried using them for ambushes. Same problem, they get swamped and slaughtered before they can do anything. I've tried holding them in reserve to throw bombs and reinforce the battle line. Sure they kinda work, but I have other units that work BETTER, such as the aforementioned fire bomb throwers, when placed behind my naginata samurai.
It seems to me that the ninja unit COULD be effective if only they were buffed a little, but right now, it seems like an unfinished concept, something that sounded good on paper but was never actually worked out in practice. Maybe they need more stealth, or they need to fire off their ammo faster (half the time on the battlefield, my ninjas dont even have time for a single volley unless the enemy is standing still, though thankfully the AI is so stupid they actually do helpfully offer themselves as stand-in practice targets from time to time). Whatever they need, though, they dont have it, and I'd like to know how to give it to them.
I dont know the first thing about editing units, however, so any help would be appreciated. It seems the best place to start is simply to increase the unit size of the Ninja.
I dont even see it as much of a threat to balance, to be honest. Kisho Ninja melee stats are lower than those of katana samurai, let alone naginata or no-dachi samurai, so even if the unit size was 120, I only see them having the advantage for as long as their ammunition lasts.
Does anyone else have any suggestions here? I WANT the kisho ninja to be useful, I really do. It's a cool concept. It just lacks something in the application right now.
