    Default Fortified monastries?

Whilst there has been some vague discussion about new settlements for SS, I'd like to suggest that work be done to provide the SS community with a range of fortified monasteries that could be used in the same way that Perm Stone Forts are.

These need not be particularly accurate, but give the right feel for a defensible religious settlement.

As an idea, one could use a plain square fort design and place an ambient monastery (from the PSF + ambient building package which includes some monasteries) building inside the walls, with (if possible) some other bits and pieces - maybe some farm buildings.

Not only would these give more variety to the range of forts available, but give enhanced role-play opportunities.

Cultural variations would be most welcome, for example a ribat for Islamic factions or specifically "russian" ones for out east, and even small Armenian ones as well.

Given we have forts and ambient monasteries that can be placed on strat and battlemaps, it would seem an interesting project to try and create a series of fortified monasteries, perhaps one for each of the major cultures (or maybe three levels -fortified church, fortified priory/abbey, fortified monastery:

Interesting idea... for Europe this makes more sense then permanent stone forts in many areas.

Rather then monasteries I'd rather see this implemented as castles/forts (obviously getting rid of permanent forts in this case). A one settlement (village/town/city etc.) campaign map with some regions also getting castle(s). Just seems more accurate this way instead of having castle + city settlement campaign map.

If you visit Wallachia or better Moldavia regions from Romania will discover that almost any monastery from there have wall almost same size like the castles. No need to say same happens in Transylvania.
In fact, I think even at XVII the fortified monasteries were heavily used here.

cool idea but it seems like the forts should also have another minor purpose such as increased peity for the region or something small

The CHIP mod is implementing monasteries which are built (but don't show up on strat or battle maps) which give various bonuses, ancillaries.

As the suggested fortified monasteries in O/P would have to be pre-placed, what we could do is script bonuses if anyone enters them (with a certain level of chance.) Note the faction would have to control them first. Otherwise it would be a hostile act and attacking a fortified monastery would not gain you any piety

It's possible that the might become places of sanctuary for defeated armies.

As the AI is incapable of distinguishing between a fort and a fortified monastery, we'd have to make sure any penalties didn't apply to them.

excellent pix gogolometro - the plan of using a square fort with a church or abbey inside plus a few other buildings, if anyone can make such a structure) would certainly look OK on battlemaps.
    --
Just had a quick look at the pkh square base fort in battle editor and managed to plonk a small monastery inside it, but it's a tight fit.
So it looks like expanding the pkh square base fort by 50% (effectively adding another stretch of wall and tower to each side) should produce a space
big enough to fit a small monastery inside it.
If you have the PSFs for SS 6.4 package you should have the necessary items to see what they look like in battle editor.
    --
However to create a proper ambient building will require using the IWTE tool referenced in the O/P and it's so long since I last used it that
I'll need to print out the manual yo see what how to do things.

I notice the war wagons work in battle editor, maybe it's time to see if they can be included in SS?

Thank you Rozanov. Here like elsewere in Europe the monasteries was a culture stronghold, but also strategic points. The walls was never constructed just against mongol tatars or turks, but more like it againts cristian lords.
All pictures represent royal monasteries, fortified and fit for siege.
Last one is an expresion of late medieval tradition, a fortified church erected at a top of a hill, 100 meters from Danube, like shelter and stronghold.

A monastery have big walls, ussual maded by stone and defended with towers and strong gate. Was place for archers and gunners. The biggest motivation for that walls was maybe before army cover, a well defended bank, there being a lot of books, jewelry and art pieces who need to be keep in.

I have seen them for other mods so its definitely do able. I think the main issue is making them static on the battlefield, and if you do that the AI wont be able to use them and what you will end up with is another item that human can take advantage of against ai.

Dont get me wrong, it would be really cool to have them in hungary late period, but I dont see how it would be possible to make it balanced.

We may have Mr. crow permission to use his war wagons for CHIP but Roz have to ask him first. (I do have it for my project but only HRE will have it unfortunately).
