    *Important News*

    Introduction
Over the past couple of months there has been a whirlwind of activity behind the scenes in the Writers Study, and whilst some of you may have heard rumours (sorry) nothing definite has been confirmed. This is the aim of this little article, so to speak, to bring you up to speed with what we've got planned. A lot of the stuff is just minor things that won't affect your day-to-day visit, however for those of you who amongst the regulars of the Study you may catch up on some noticeable changes. Below we'll list most of the changes, and explain why they're happening, at the end we'd love to hear your thoughts.

    Forum Changes

    • First off many of you may have noticed the 'Grand Archive' in the CW section, it is still a wonder to me why it is there in the first place - but we've decided to move it into the Lounge as a place for old threads to be archived. Also the Duels and Challenges forum will be moved into the CW section from the TotW forum, but what for... Speaking of the CW section we'll be bringing back out the 'Gilded Hall', which will be a place to store finished CW piece, some of you older members may remember it from ages gone by. We want the CW forum to be on par with its AAR counterpart, and we feel it is only fair that they are treated the same.

    • The Narthex, which was a place for new writers to introduce themselves, will be merged with the WS Chat thread and will stay in the Lounge. We feel the chat thread should also be a place for new writers as well as a place to... well chat. Bearing the Lounge in mind the MAARC HoF will be merged with the WS Scoreboard and Hall of Fame, keeping the name of the latter. We felt the MAARC there is no need for both, and the MAARC is such a key part of the Study that the past winners can be immortalised in the Lounge.

    • Flying to the AAR forums one will notice some changes as well. The actual AAR forum will play host to the Finished AAR Index, so be sure to check it out before going to read your favourite genre - there is some great stuff. The individual ones will remain where they are, but for a general browse we suggest you check this out. Also the Advertising board will be moved from the MAARC forum into the Lounge because we want both works of fiction and AARs to be advertised. Finally in the vain hope that more people will submit their adverts we are moving the News Thread advertisement into the Lounge as well, so more of you will see it!

    New Competition
    • The biggest thing most of you'll notice is the new competition we are planning on introducing in September. This competition will be called The AAR of the Year (AAROTY) and has evolved from a thread posted by ybbon in the Lounge. It will be based in the MAARC forum (more on that later) and as September draws nearer we'll release more information as we finalize the details. It will be starting on the 1st September, so keep your eyes peeled.

    Other Stuff
    • Due to us realising that the MAARC medal is used for pretty much all our competitions we've decided to name it more aptly - The Writers' Study Competition Medal. Nothing besides the name will change, but we felt it needed to be done. If you have any more thoughts for a new name please let us know.

    • You have waited, we have waited, and you have waited some more... but finally we are making progress on the planning of the Writers' Study new publication - Writers' Block! This new publication should be popping up around September also. Feel free to speculate, but we ain't saying nothing... yet.

    • It is coming back... with a vengeance! In the not-so-distant future we will be bringing back the Duels and Challenges. An event where the underbelly of the Study will sharpen their quills and poison each other's mind in a battle of acumen, wit, and trash talking. We are finishing up on the details, and a FAQ thread will be posted in the Lounge.

    Closing Remarks
There we go, us at the Study hope you are looking forward to these changes as much as we are, they have been a long time coming and we can't wait to see the final product and share it with you. These changes will be implemented as and when, so keep your eyes open. Of course that's not all, we have heard some mysterious rumours about a new Creative Writing competition about to appear on the horizon. Some are saying it will be one of the greatest TWC competitions ever, others say the greatest - all we know is it is coming, and we all better be ready...

    - If you have questions or feedback, please use this thread: Writers' Study Chat and Feedback

To round us off I want to say something you, the guest who is reading this. If you like what you've seen, and even if you haven't, please, please sign up and say hello, offer your thoughts etc. We are quite a friendly bunch, if you do happen to sign up drop me a Visitor or Private message and I'd be honoured to help you out.

The Writers' Study Newsletter – 30th July

What's happened, what is happening, and what is going to happen...

    The Intro
The Duels & Challenges is off to a great start, with one almost to an end, and two more in the works we can't wait until you have a go at one yourself... you are going to, right? And yes the time has come - the Olympics are back, and in London. I've been somewhat following team GB... and their 'partial' success. We hope you enjoy this week's issue.

As ever we want to hear your thoughts in the Chat Thread, so please feel free to drop by.

To make it easy for the reader, all links to the tales have been included in the OP, in addition the links are organized by chronological order.

    Tale of the Week
After a tough week the winner of the 149th Tale of the Week has been announced. A massive congratulations to Asterix whose tale stood tall and fended off the competition. Gold for Asterix. (In the Olympic sense!) You can view the full details here, and if you are in a reading sort-of mood why not browse the other great tales here.

TotW 150 has gone to the vote, and with 7 submissions your votes are desperately needed. Read, decide and vote all on this one thread.

TotW 151 has arrived with an Olympic-themed sort of week. Alongside a cracking photo of the main stadium are the infamous 5 key words. If you want to stretch your hand, sharpen your quill, or tax your brain then please go and submit a tale here.

    *Important News*
A few minor things to inform you of this week, but please bear in mind the other changes we still have to bring in. As each week progress we'll include details about the changes as and when. One thing to note is the MAARC medal and points have been renamed. Please now refer to them as the Writers' Study Competition Medal, and Writers' Study Competition Medal points (or WSCM points for short), the Narthex has also been merged with the chat thread to have space dedicated to WS chatting.

Another thing is that the Tale Project thread has been updated, as a few more collections have popped up, which is great to see. We are in the process of updating the 'Official' sticky threads we have here in the Study, mainly by doing a bit of refurbishment and adding some exciting new graphics. We'd love to have your feedback and suggestions about these, and if you have any questions you'd like to see in the FAQ to help out someone who is new to the Study and what we do - then please post them in the Chat thread.

Finally, the MAARC Hall of Fame Index and the Writers' Study Hall of Fame Scoreboard threads have been merged to provide you with all the information you need for past winners, and too see how close you are to that next medal!

    Closing Remarks
There we go, not much to report overall this week, but as ever keep partaking in the TotW, and if you haven't get over there! July is coming to an end so get submitting your AARs for the MAARC as well.

    - If you have questions or feedback, please use this thread: Writers' Study Chat and Feedback

We want your feedback to the changes we have made, and the ones we plan to now more than ever; and with several things soon to be popping up now is a great time to get involved.

You will also notice that the Finished AAR Index is now in the main AAR forum - for obvious reasons.

    Tale of the Week
Vote here which story was able to fill the VOID the best in TotW 156! Seven stories, three votes, one winner!

This is totally inappropriate, I mean this nudity and stuff, and that is called inspiration, I mean, seriously people, what's wrong here? In my time this was not allowed, but these young guns are unstoppable. Very nice, very nice indeed. Lovely. TotW 157 is here.

If you have anything TotW-related that you want to discuss please go and pop in to the commentary thread and let us know what's on your mind.

    Duels and Challenges
After considerable bloodshed the current duels have ended. The last one between ybbon66 and Shankbot12 can be found here. Congratulate the winner (not revealed here) and see how the bodies are wrapped up. Meanwhile, the victor is already reloading the gun and preparing for the next round of trash talk. That is something we old people don't like. We have never talked like that, it was all respect and stuff. Had I done this, I would have been challenged for a duel and massacred... Oh the old times!

If you feel like taking part in a Duel head over to the Dueller's commentary thread and see who comes forth to take the might of your quill on! Get all the info you'll need here.

    *Important News*
During my daily walk, I stumbled upon MAARC this famous old competition, and was sad to see that it is now looking for submissions... Oh, the former glory! Where are all those adventurous souls? Now go and submit AARs, dammit! This is the XL edition, people! That means extra large! And you all know what that means!

Issue 35 of the Critic's Quill has been published, and it is STILL an amazing edition. Please read it here and give your support to the people who have written for it.

Ever wanted a competition to decide an AAR of the year? Well now is your chance to get involved. See here for info regarding the AAROTY competition - after months of private discussion now your feedback is urgently needed.

That is it for this issue, although keep your eyes peeled and your pens inked as we have some very interesting things about to due pop up. With rumours of a new publication, a new yearly competition, and a fabled CW tournament, there is a lot to get ready for... eventually

    Closing Remarks
Err... so what did I leave out... or something...

The Writers' Study Newsletter – 17th September

What's happened, what is happening, and what is going to happen...

    The Intro
Welcome to this weeks news letter, please read these lyrics as you think to yourself how do you feel.

    Birds flying high
    You know how I feel
    Sun in the sky
    You know how I feel
    Breeze driftin' on by
    You know how I feel
    It's a new dawn
    It's a new day
    It's a new life
    For me
    And I'm feeling good
    I'm feeling good

    (Those lyrics are probably wrong.)

See the Chat Thread as well, you know the drill.

    Tale of the Week
Billy Joel joins us for TotW 158 - The Downeaster Alexa, so go and submit your tale - otherwise I'll be after you.

In the meanwhile please read through the Inspiration-al tales of this week and vote for your winner. Speaking of voting The Void has gone to a tie-breaker so break the tie and cast your die to vote for your winnive.... it doesn't really work.... oh well.....

If you have anything TotW-related that you want to discuss please go and pop in to the commentary thread and let us know what's on your mind.

    Duels and Challenges
A new duel is under way, and ybbon is once again duelling for his dignity against robinzx. With ybbon being the more experienced duellist and a win under his belt you can't help but wonder who will win....vote here. Plus there is a funny video to watch.

If you feel like taking part in a Duel head over to the Dueller's commentary thread and see who comes forth to take the might of your quill on! Get all the info you'll need here.
