The game development business is one of bottomless greed, pitiless cruelty, venal treachery, rampant competition, low politics and boundless personal ambition. New game series are rising, and others are starting their long slide into obscurity and defeat.
no... you are using the system against itself in a way it is not supposed to be used... the bonus from charging in from behind (hehehe, dirty thoughts) is a feature in the game... the diplomacy "trick" is an exploit that should've been fixed in a patch...
if you want to compare, then use the stakes-in-fron-of-the-gate-exploit instead...
"My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the Arsenal is no more, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of gooner-ship, but it is not this day. An hour of Spuds and shattered cannons when theHighburyEmirates comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of North London!"

Indeed maybe this would be a better comparison (or the example of ireland that never gets attacked)but still you got my point...It is just that i have the feeling that i m not breaking the rules i simply using them in my benefit. After all...war is all about deception
My trick is i just give him a long tribute at low level. 20 turns at 100 gold, or even 10.
I always try and be giving the pope some tribute, even if i cant afford much.
my biggest problem with this is my diplomat gets the negative traits for hanging around rome.
(if only i could remember to move those damn diplomats every turn....)
I don' see the op's trick a trick or exploit at all.
Just the offer of such a trade should raise reputation because it is showing your generosity. I mean considering a lot of the time if you pieced off 5-6 regions you could probably really make more like ~40,000 instead. But as been said tributing is so much easier.
