    Default Need to buy headphones

I need to buy good headphones for my grandfather - mostly for movies and music, particularly to block out background noises. Cost: up to $200.

    Any recommendations and why?

    Thank you for your help.

I personally use sennheiser hd 555's, great value, sound quality and blocks out outside noise - I would highly recommend them

And I use the Sennheiser HD595's. They are better than the 555's and are still less than $200. The HD555's are a better value however.

    Thank you for the response.

What, if any, is the difference between the two Sennheiser models?

    What about Bose?

I've heard the HD595's have more bass than the HD555's but I haven't tried both so I couldn't say.

Bose are overpriced, with them you pay alot just for their brand name. Bose isn't even a consideration by audiophiles, just those with no experience with mid to high end sound. Sennheiser gives you the most for your money in that $100-$200 range.

I'm currently not sure whether I should get the HD555s and mod them to HD595s or the Sennheiser HD 518. Thoughts?

I would not get a Gamecom 777, biggest waste of 100$, for they are very uncomfortable.

As for modding the HD555, it seems simple enough as long as you have some technical know-how (and do it yourself, dont make gramps do it).

EDIT: and the # after the brand refers to the quality i believe, so the 555 or 595 should be better quality than the 518. P.s. i might buy the 555 myself today.
