Game running slow after not playing for a while

NTW used to run just fine a couple of months ago. But then I didn't play it for a while, and now it's much slower, like unplayable slow . I have no idea what could have caused it, anyone got an idea or suggestions?

Check list:
1. Delete the scripts folder and verfy your game cache.
2. Update all drivers.
3. Run disk cleanup and defrag your harddrive.
4. Turn off/ disable all background programs the game does not need.
5. clean out the case and be sure all fans are working.

Thank you for your reply. Are you absolutely sure this will work? Because doing that means a lot of stuff gets deleted, stuff that I might need.

Disk cleanup = run it and see what it comes up with. You can uncheck the ones you don't want deleted.

Am I sure it will help the game? No, but you computer will love you for it.

Well..I did all those things and it's still running slowly :s
To be more precise, it starts lagging when I zoom in. Like I said, it worked fine a few months ago and I haven't really changed anything since then. It's also quite a new computer (got it like 6 months ago).
Any more ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Well, it could be all of CA's Napoleon updates catching up with the computer.

Zoomed in will slow down unless you have the horses to overcome it.

Post your dxdiag.

Monitor your temps and voltages in case zooming in is puttinga strain on parts.

Well, I downloaded Shogun 2 demo today and it works just fine. About the same performance as Napoleon a few months ago. Napoleon is still acting weird.

because of steam, files get randomly deleted. verify cache once a week and you should be alright.
