PC won't play music, even when unmuted

This has been annoying me for the past couple of days. The speakers are on, they're unmuted, the sound controls at the bottom right are no different to a couple of days ago, yet there's simply no sound. What do? Nothing has any sound; youtube, music, films, games. It's really getting on my nerves and I just wannna get the sound working again. Any suggestions?

You may have tried these but:
(apologies somewhat random order)

can you get system sounds?
has the sound service started -
(i find with my sound card that sometimes the windows sound service or the sound card service fail to start on boot-up.
Check in control panel (assuming you have a PC, otherwise whatever equivalent), administrative tools, services, and scroll down and check the relevant services have started.

have you the sounds troubleshooter? (might be able to pinpoint issue?)

can you install your speakers on another PC to check they are still working - are they powered off the PC or have their own power supply -
if their own check they are on, fuse is OK, etc.)

Have you checked your sound card drivers to see if there's a problem there.

if you have a sound card it might have failed - can you replace with another or use built-in mobo sopund?
alternatively if you run off built-in sound can you try other speakers or headphones?

if you have self-powered speakers the electronics can go, faulty connections in the amp box can cause problems.

you've checked all leads are correctly inserted?
