A Jesuit Church has been forced into making a huge payout over the rape of hundreds of children at a school for Native Americans. It's time our society realised that priests need to be vetted, not trusted.

Sad as it sounds, we'll need a few years more worth of cases like these until people will start feeling that something's really wrong. Right now, I think most folks, especially in politics, would rather hope and pretend that this is an anecdotal problem that will simply be a single dark page in a very long history book.

Damn right. You just can't say "forgive the priests who molested many children" and then everyone forgives, nobody sues and life goes on. There's consequences to actions and this church has to pay for it and not use financial woes or religious teaching to excuse themselves from prosectuion

I believe in poetic justice. Sexual Predators become wholesome prey. It's not cruel or unusual, it's fair. Those kids will never be okay. We need a deterrent. Going to jail is not a deterrent. Being mauled by wild animals in a sandy pit while crowds cheer your death is a deterrent. As long as their are guilty perpetrators I think any means that isn't torture is fair play. Being eaten by animals is all natural.

But then that doesn't have anything to do with ethics or morals. I mean the morals and ethics of the Catholic Church are pretty clear: don't be gay, don't use condoms and don't children.

We are not debating the moral/ethical nature of established religion in here, we are criticizing(reasonably) the political inaction of it's members when faced with a clearly immoral action by their own standards.

This is more political than anything else.
