Default Help for a noob modder

I'm not sure this is the right place, but it seems as good as any. I want to edit the game to make units move faster, as a ten-year trek from the British Isles to Egypt is just a little unrealistic, but can't find the files anywhere. Help would be appreciated.

Realised I needed to unpack the files first, still can't find the file though.

Unpacker = Medieval II Total War\tools\unpacker\unpack_all.bat for vanilla. Each of the Kingdoms campaigns has an unpack_*.bat.

Copy all the msv*.dll files into this folder.

If Vista or 7, best done with the UAC disabled.

No, sorry, I've already unpacked it, but still can't find where to change unit speed. Nice to know someone out of the 35 or so people who've viewed this have answered.

Unit speed is in the export_descr_units.txt. The lagend at the top tells you which one for the unit.

Can you tell me the category it's under? (i.e. attributes, class etc.) I still can't find it anywhere in the file. I'm using plain kingdoms if that affects anything.

It's in the data folder if you unpacked everything. How many files unpacked?

I've found export_descr_units.txt but can't find where in the file unit speed is kept in the legend.

I apologize. I don't see it either. The only thing I see that can determinr it is the Category line.

Hello Nye do you mean you wish to increase how far your units can travel across the campaign map? if so descr_character.txt is where to look and you need to change the value in starting_action_points.

I thought that was just for generals, diplomats and other characters, I want to apply it to other units, ships to be exact.

Setting it for "general" will set the captain marching distance and setting it for named character will set it for all recruitable generals or family members.

Is there some sort of limit, because when I raised it to 160 it increased the speed, but when I raised it to 320 it didn't make such a noticeable difference.

ya, the speed of light! actually I think the limits for most numerical values is 200 ( like in desc_resources)

Increase this value instead if it's not helping in the descr_character.txt file.
    Code:
    <movement_points_modifier float="2.0"/>
It's found in the descr_campaign_db.xml file.

Also be wary that with increased movement point your turn times will be increased which can get annoying.
