Default How exactly do unit stats work?

The basic idea of each stat is fairly obvious but I have not been able to find any information on exactly how they work. For example how does armor compare to melee defense? How much does each point matter? etc

Is there some sort of exact formula for how combat is calculated with these stats?

When in melee, armor and melee defense are both in the equation, which is why Naginata Monks > Naginata Samurai in straight up melee, however when being fired upon by arrows, only armor counts, making Monks very vulnerable to archers, and the Samurai more resistant with their massive 9 armor.

I don't follow that setence... Naginata Samurai have more armor than monks, so if both armor and melee defense were to be counted in, how is that the reason why they lose to warrior monks in melee?

Hes taking into account that monks have much higher melee attack value than samurai, even though he didn't state this...

Naginata Samurai - Naginata Warrior Monks
    Melee Attack -9-14
    Charge -12-12
    Vs Cav -15-10
    Melee Def -6-8
    Arm -9-2
    Morale -10-15
    Speed -4-4

As you can see the Naginata will take fewer casualties overall in melee because 6+9=15 Melee Mitigation vs the Monks 8+2=10 Melee Mitigation. However the difference in stats when taking into account Melee Attack changes things.

    Samurai - 6+9-14=1
    Monks - 2+8-9=1

Take note that these values don't work like this when determining a kill, they merely represent a value of the units skill.

So now these units are pretty much even in combat, which means they will essentially kill each other to the last man, UNTIL you factor in the monks greater moral, and not to mention their war cry (exact stats unknown to me).

I kind of assumed that but I still HATE it when the logic in a sentence is just... off.

BTW how was the useage of armor in melee confirmed?

Armour in melee, while also being used in previous tw titles, was not officially confirmed from any sources I know. However the community has extensively tested it and it is pretty clear it does affect melee.

Take for instance the duel above, Monks vs Samurai Naginata. If no armor is involved the monks would absolutely decimate the samurai, which is not the case in the game.

    No armor involved -
    Monks 14-6=8 attacking power
    Samurai 9-8=1 attacking power

Where can u exacktly find out hhow fast the units are running, both 4 can't be because my monks always overtake my Naginata Samurai, but starting right behind them both running.

A related question, rather than start a new thread. What bonus does experience give a unit?

Experience gives +1 per level to all stats except armor, I think. Just like previous total war titles.

On experience, the in-game encyclopedia actually have really detailed documentation on it. Later experience points also give your units more stamina too so it's not just +1 to all stats (third levels don't give melee defense for example). Here is the link on the online version http://www.totalwars.ru/encyclopedia...xperience.html

How do you test this? Because in my experience No Daichi actually decimate Katana samurai in straight up melee, even on legendary where AI gets bonuses.
