Default Fail to open sound database

Immediate CTD upon starting the game.

    My install:

-RTW Gold Edition (RTW+BI, 1.6 iirc).
-Followed the instructions (http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showth...shots-provided), I have not installed the Trivial Script, don't know if this matters, I did it before and it didn't change anything, this is my 3rd time trying to re-install EB...
-Immediate CTD upon attempting to start the game with the message "fail to open sound database"

    What I've done so far:

-googled the error (checked the above links http://www.google.be/search?q=EB+cra...ient=firefox-a), found some people with the same problem but no satisfying answer to my case.
-the only other mod installed is RS II, but all mods I have are modfoldered, this in the past was never a problem, this is the first time that EB gives me this error message and I don't recall doing anything fundamentally different from then.

What can the problem be? One of the other people with this issue was asked (in reply to the issue):
In any other case, please open preferences.txt found in \EB\preferences\ and search for the line:
    AUDIO_3D_PROVIDER:
What value is written in your file?
No reply was ever given but in my case this reads: AUDIO_3D_PROVIDER:Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio

Ran install validation, gave me this:

You don't have an original installation; There are changes to files, or some are missing.
However, these may be conscious changes you have made, to remod EB. See below for details.
    ==========
    Missing file: .\data\packs\patch_1.pak
(+ a number of changed files)

I've added the report in an attachment for those who have more understanding of it then I do. I also downloaded and unzipped the patch_1.pak as described here: "Validation tool says that you are missing patch_1.pak (or something similar)? Get this file and extract it in <RTW>/data/packs." However problem remains.

Much obliged for any help that can be given. Saw this: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=429148, yes I have RS II is the root of the problem? When in the past I installed RS II after EB I don't recall it crashing. It's why I'm confused.

    Thanks for this detailed report!
From the validation I can see that sound related files from Vanilla are changed.
Did you use Ferromancers installer for BI?
As it seems that in the last thread you linked the solution about RS2 not been modfoldered was probably right you can try this. Create a new clean installation of RTW and make a copy of it fro each mod you want to play, backup your saved games and settings before doing that.

Hmmm, you mean for the switch to a BI-exe for EB? In the past yes, that worked fine. I did not install it now. Would that solve my problem? Can I manually fix those altered sound files or do you suggest a new install? (or secondary install for that matter)

In general I propose a clean RTW copy for every mod so one is on the safe side.
I would try to apply Ferromancers's nice installer, it's always a try.

If this solution doesn't help you, go for a new installation.
