how to unlock elite units

I don't know if this question is already asked but i could not find it so here goes..

I recently bought empire and napoleon game of the year edition and now i would like to get the game add-ons (heroes of the napolionic wars, elite regiments and imperial guard). My question is do i have to unlock them in a campaign or can i just buy/download them?

You get them by upgrading your barracks to the highest tier.

This is what the Steam page for Napoleon lists as coming with that edition of the game:

Napoleon: Total War™ - Coalition Battle Pack
Napoleon: Total War™ - The Peninsular Campaign

The Imperial Guard DLC was free for everyone, this should automatically download and the units will be available when you have their build requirements satisfied. You may find the above 2 DLC's are already in your game (do you see the Peninsular Campaign in the main menu?). If they are, you only need to satisfy build requirements to access the units.

It looks to me that Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars & Elite Regiments DLC is not in your edition of the game and is also not available for purchase separately. Sorry.


Edit: Looking further down on the steam page, there are a bunch of extra units listed as being included in this edition... I am pretty sure these are your missing Heros & Elite Regiments units! Yay for you! They too should be available with the proper build requirements as well.

You can upgrade your barracks/artillery foundries to the max. However, your home country capital can be upgraded one extra tier. This last tier is usually where the elite units are at ie Foot Guard, Old Guard, Lifeguard Foot, Dutch/Polish Lancers. Some "elites" need technology to be researched ie rockets, unicorns. Hope this helped.

Ok guys, back again..

I have finished my grind playing as the Prussians. I got the whole tech-tree researched and have built/upgraded every single building and still i cannot get my elite units like the Uhlans and such. Is this normal?

Hi.

Some may have more requirements than just a tech, such as a locational requirement. For instance, I might be wrong but are you referring to the Brandenburg Uhlans? They would obviously need whatever high-level building is needed to build them, but this building would also need to be in Berlin (Brandenburg), and you would only find them recruitable there. Did you specifically look to Berlin to build them?

Yes i was referring to them and i have built and upgraded all buildings to the max in Berlin (level 5 ) and all my other 18 regions but still i cannot see them in my recruitment window...
