    Default Realm Divide Thoughts

Yes another thread on it. There are none for the first few pages so I would like to express my own opinions having just experienced it:

This has been said elsewhere, but the BIGGEST problem is that once you know it's coming, you plan your entire game around the fact that it will. Your economy completely breaks down, trade/diplomacy is thrown away for the rest of the game, and you're basically in Total War.

I very much like the idea of Realm Divide, but I think it could have been implemented better. Clans that are hostile or unfriendly towards you should slowly accept the Shoguns mission to come after you as opposed to everyone at once. This would help you stabilize your economy slowly as Realm Divide occurs. I feel as though your allies or some of these clans could disagree and choose to fight alongside you as opposed to EVERYONE fighting against you.

I also disagree that all other clans form alliances with each other, and believe they should still continue their own personal wars. That doesn't seem realistic.

Unless you completely manipulate through Diplomacy, you basically need to plan your entire game that everyone will be hostile towards you.

I'd like to hear stories from people who have had good experiences with it, as I haven't had more than a few turns in it.

It's a bit of a pain in the arse to have my 40 year ally turn on me overnight. The diplomatic hit should affect neutral clans but not ones who are deeply loyal to you.

Realm divide is an interesting concept but it makes very little sense in its application in this game. You're absolutely right when you say your entire strategy is focused on a single event and in my opinion, ruins the immersion into the game because you're anticipating an inevitable outcome. I end up playing every single game the same which is sad because there are so many other things that the game offers but I have to ignore to some extent.

Here is one way to lessen Realm divide. Dont explore. I have noticed that nations in which you have no contact or are unknown, do not get the negative opinions of your clan. Also, any new nation that is formed after realm divide, in which you have no contact, have no opinion about you either. So once realm divide occurs, go around and establish diplomacy and trade with these new nations.

The fact that this is a work around, tells me that Realm divide was more of an afterthought to compensate for an unchallenging late game AI than actually being part of the game dynamic.

Realm divide is a cool idea, as said above. But as also said above, it's implementation needs some polish.
