CAI cheats its ass off to win even on normal

So just now i was attacked by a full stack of rank 4 ashigaru and samurai by a tiny clan. I have taken all their lands and they roll in and take my capital with this magic 4 chevron army i have no idea how they got it but the ai cheats.

Campaign is completely screwed, as there's just no way i can fight a rank 4 army and I'm at war with about 6 clans.

Every campaign i have played on normal has been the same; i get attacked by everyone for no reason, my vassals get attacked, enemy spawns 3-4 full stacks and i get owned. Trust ca to take a great game and make it since they want to make the ai look good.

Campaign is . Anyone who doesn't agree just hasn't experienced the ai yet. I have played 6 campaigns; every single one has been the exact same: full stacks come out of nowhere until i die and every single clan dows me.

id prefer not getting crushed by the obvious cheating AI. its not good ai it just cheats. It doesn't matter how well you play when the ai just get free money and stacks or so it seems. Its absolutely ing infuriating how i can spend 4 hours on a campaign and then some dickhead clan with its allies somehow gets a huge veteran army and shuts down my entire campaign. Absolute turd. Id be happy if it was actually defeating me though just being better at the game than i am but its not.

I kinda like the challenge. Having played since Shogun 1 I was getting bored with the constant heroic victories I could pull off in every game since Rome total war. I've actually almost lost a few battles , had to withdraw several times, and even abandon provinces to stay alive. It's been great. More "cheating" please!

Play on Hard difficulty. I have yet to see what you describe. My allies hold their alliances and if I destroy some AI faction's armies, it's an easy march into their capital

By the way, when I got Shogun, I started playing on Normal difficulty to get acquainted with things and it soon got too easy. I was steamrolling the map and all the AI's provinces I took were way less developed than mine. On hard difficulty, they at least show some teeth.

As to the Uber-experienced armies: I bet they come from provinces with buildings that give experience bonuses. I have seen buildings that give +5 experience to troops trained there. So, no magic there. Also, AI can hide its armies in the trees. Probably, the army that came 'out of nowhere' just came out of the woods.

Yeah its so ing great when ca cant make a good AI so they just make it spawn armies for no cost to rape you. So ing awesome! Forget making a good, interesting or thoughtful AI.

Explore the building tree. The higher level buildings give up to +5 (the ones I've seen) to unit experience... On top of that, there are arts that add to unit experience across the board...

And here's another, it's never happened to me either. I've never seen magical armies spawn out of nowhere..
The only time is when rebels spawn due to unhappiness or religion, and tries to take a settlement. But that happens to the AI as well, and ofc an army has to spawn if rebels should even have a chance of being something to worry about.
Same thing when you make someone a vassal, an army spawns, so they can defend.

But other than those two obvious things, i've never ever seen an army spawn magically, either it has been hidden in a forest or it's just marched in from somewhere else.



As for fighting 4 chevron armies with recruits, out in the field you cant, but in a siege you can.
I just fought off an invasion by a newly rebelled / risen minor clan, nearly a full stack of experienced troops against my 6 ashigaru bowmen recruits and 4 yari.
I won, it was due to clever play and good work on my part, and some luck, but i won, with the enemy having 400 men remaining and i had 80 men remaining.

Four hours? On a single campaign? What was the a.i. doing during those 4 hours?

I know what you mean... I often see those samurai 4 chevron doom stacks roll up to my ashigaru stack and destroy it utterly. From where they come i do not know but how the do they replenish in one ing turn?

I think often this is also just because units were hiding.

Before anybody takes offense in some way, I;m not saying that's always the case, but I;m sure it happens quite alot.

I sometimes lose track of enemy armies, until they suddenly pop up just as I;m trying to take a light defended town.

ya there are in hiding which some people forget that can be done on campaign map. However I did witness AI spawn 10units in a city when its turn came I know for sure cause I has a line of sight all around its city to see those units appear.

However even if you have line of sight "all around the city" armies move quite quickly on roads and since I usually play with "show AI moves" off an army that moves in to reinforce a city looks like it suddenly appears. Even more so if they were hidden inside their own territory, they'll move back in to defend their city and it will look exactly like they just "appeared" there.

Could be. but its was city of Awaji =/ has land crossing blocked with an army. =/

Just finished a medium domination campaign with the Takeda. Never saw anything like what youre talking about and I did it while at war with everyone, no trade with anyone, and no naval ships of any kind. Protect your assets with something other than ashigaru?

Good point, I've fallen pray to this too. "Now where did that Ouchi army go I swear it was just here last turn, oh well I guess I'll take their city. *next turn* Ah there it is, damn well now I gotta take my city back. Sneaky bastards!"
