    Default Greece: Total War

Am I the only one who wants this more than Rome 2? It seems like the next logical step past Shogun. The City States of Greece would be similar on surface, yet vastly different. You could keep the world smaller scale like Shogun, keep the focus on culture, politics, advancing technology, ect ect. It would even set up a great stepping stone into the Roman Empire times. Perhaps an expansion pack, or an aspect of the game itself, with Rome emerging, with options to play as them right away? I dunno, I just feel like a classical age game would be fantastic, rather than a Rome remake. It hasn't been explored too thoroughly yet. Sparta, Athens, Persia, Phoenicia, Egypt, island hopping naval combat, heroes fighting at the fore of their men, the development of tactics! Perhaps I'm just a sucker for Greece, I mean, it'd be present in Rome 2, but in a diminished, poorly fleshed out "unified" form, which never existed until Alexander the Great.

    Who's with me?

I like the idea, but it seems like an even smaller area to go for. Shogun II is around twice as large as the area of Greece. If they did make it, it would be an expansion to Rome II.

Well, I don't think it'd be just based in Greece by itself, though Greece is fairly large when taking the islands into consideration. The Greeks fought with the Persian Empire, other City States in Asia minor, Carthage, Egypt, and even explored into Britain at some point, so it'd more or less be the same size as Rome.

Partly true. If we're talking about classical Greece, then I'm afraid I'm going to have to dissapoint you: battles were hoplite grind fests, really, as no-one had yet thought of skirmishers or cavalry (at least not on a significant scale). If you want "balanced" battles, you'd have to start at the Theban hegemony. Which means starting at Alexander. And Alexander means that you'll have to expand the map to include the complete Persian Empire.

Don't get me wrong, ancient Greece is awesome. But it wouldn't really work with the system TW uses now.

Well I would be more interested in the 3rd/2nd century BC Greek history.

But there might be even fewer factions in the Diadochi Era I guess. Although this would ensure challenging campaigns when being faced with Roman invasions and Seleucids or Ptolemaians trying to secure influence on your and the AI factions.

Only when being set in Late Antiquity.
Anywhere from the 4th to the early 7th century.

You mean the Sassanids? That'd be even better. I imagine the epic world war I style action (both taking heavy casualties, neither winning) between both of the superpowers.

Oh, and the epic Hephtalite invasions, crysis of the 5th sentury and stuff.

I could see the Greece: Total War idea being a good one. It could be performed in two ways:
    1) Take the map of say BBW, chop it off at the coast of Western Macedonia, and go from there with a very in depth look at the Greek city states, and the eastern opponents they could've encountered.
    OR
    2) Go with the whole BBW map, and if they chose the proper time period, the world would mostly consist of Hellenic cultures. You could have the city states ( Athens, Corinth, Sparta, Etc ) and also have a ton of other factions. Oscan tribes in Italy, the Etruscans, Tuscans, Sicilian tribes, the obvious eastern cultures, Carthage, and there would be a ton of barbarian tribes to choose from.

I'd buy/play it. But that goes for anything in that time period.
