    Default Too much siege defense?

I dunno if this has been discussed already- but my game as the Oda on hard has been basically the same thing over and over again. The AI attacks me, i annihilate them in a siege battle, then I take a few of their provinces. Then they send a few more stacks at me, I annihilate them in a siege battle, and then I steamroll them some more.. etc etc ad nauseum.

Maybe it's because I'm in the center of Japan, and the cities are nearby that everything is so siege oriented- but it seems as though the campaign has really lost its flavor. No pivotal, interesting battles, just this same procedure of routing the AIs massive stacks in the siege over and over again. it's easy to exploit the AIs suicidal aggressiveness, while if they played more defensive sometimes, it might be a bit more interesting.

Right now, it seems the key to being successful in the game is just having your armies in the right place in the right time so you can actually deal with all the attacking AI stacks

    Well, yeah.

Or, you could wait at bridges and kill incomming stack upon incomming stack.

Taking advantage of the AI's poor risk evaluation scheme has been the way to beat harder difficulties of TW since forever.

Being in the right place at the right time is a maxim of all warfare.

But it does depend on where you are. So far, I've had plenty more decisive battles in fields, forests and hills than siege battles, but its quickly evening out.

Sometimes its worth it to go out into the field.

Next time, try and lay a cavalry army in ambush. Its a good feeling.
    Forward, march!

Actually, in a big change from most vanilla TW games, I'm finding myself fighting more field battles than ever. It's too bad, sieges are actually fun in this one!

If the game had some sort of "extreme devastation" feature a player would be encouraged to stop invaders before they reach a city.

So if there is an enemy army in your province your income is severely lowered for several turns and your population migrates elsewhere (or is simply lost for gameplay reasons).

I haven't played S2 so I can't tell but if the settlements are a turn away this would actually be bad as it would definitely be able to be abused.

afaik CA did away with region population completely in S2. Thank the lord for that. havent noticed population after 60 hours of play.

I just hit realm divide and I haven't fought a single siege defence yet. The AI also refuses to fight me on a bridge.

Guess it just doesn't want to assault big stacks?

Almost every army that ever enters my lands makes sure to annoy me by destroying all the buildings there.

The worst part is when you defeat an army and they have very few troops left, maybe even just one guy and they start raiding the next turn since they are out of your reach.

I take a page from Mr. Tzu's book, and never fight battles that I'm not absolutely sure I can win. A siege battle being fought for me means I either messed up, or need a slight edge against an opponent. Otherwise I'm out in the field pinning single stacks with 2 of my stacks for easy victories.
