Icon5 Why does the Seige AI give up once it's archers run out of arrows?

I'm currently in a pretty large siege battle, with me as the defender. The AI seemed to be doing fine, repeatedly attacking my walls, sending troops up them etc...

....this was all until I noticed that every unit that was firing or attempting to climb the walls were bow ashigaru.

I thought this was odd, since it didn't make sense to have the archers be the first ones over the top, especially when the enemy had plenty of heavier melee troops right behind their lines.

Eventually I either killed all the archer units they had, or they ran out of ammunition. Now I expected the AI to do the logical thing and send in the melee troops....they didn't. They just stood there, they're still standing there and I'm left twiddling my thumbs.

Has anyone else experienced the enemy AI just giving up in sieges once it's archers are dead?

The Melee might have been the reinforcements. Siege AI is bugged ATM, doesent know what to do with reinforcements.

Usually, without reinforcements, it sends melee first, then archers once they have no arrows, lastly it dismounts cavalry and sends them as well.

In reality, it should do a check between each phase. if they hardly dented me with their melee, it's time to withdraw after they use up all their arrows.

ya because of that I have battle time limit set Battles go fast enough to were there is no need for a No Battle Limit so if you do have that set then your forced to go out and fight them which could mean a loss for you and with battle time set it will be a win for you.

I set the battle limit at 20, it almost never happens that the battle is still raging past ~10-15 minutes anyway.

10-15 is average for me. Some can go longer than 30 though it all depends. But yes i've had this problem with the AI. Except i rode out with my horsemen and attacked enemy bowmen. Then the reinforcements didnt attack and ran in circles. I then had to chase them down and the battle lasted almost 50 minutes, but it wasnt very exciting. Im gonna putting it down to 20 minutes until they come out with a fix.

Usually the archers go last or not at all.

But most of the time I have slaughtered everything else or am defeated long before they seem to run at of arrows.

Basically if the reinforcements are huddling you can send bait out to draw them into attacking, wake them up so to speak. Or wait till the battle timer runs out.

Btw i have noticed this bug does not affect the ai if it is a different faction reinforcing, then ya get two very active armies going at your fort (pretty much the only time i have lost a guarded fort against the ai)

And last but not least reinforcements should always all enter the battlefield with the exception of armies without generals those can "dribble" in.
