I am playing Stainless Steel 6.4 with no Bygs, no Real Recruitment, and all other options standard.
So I started an early campaign with Hungary and I start off by massing two full stacks in the capitol castle during the first 15 turns in order to quickly eliminate the neighboring Cuman settlements before swooping back down to Constantinople. Byzantine beats me to the punch by attacking one of my settlements. Fine, change of plans, I'll deal with them first. After all, I'm completely ready for them.
I brush their many small stacks aside with my two full stack armies and take Constantinople and the neighboring castle by turn 18.
Turn 20 - I right click on another Byzantine town to continue my take over of the western half of their empire. I then recieve the "Attacking a neutral faction will declare war blah blah blah" popup.
Wait... what? That cannot be right. I double check: yes, it is in fact a Byzantine city. I check the diplomacy tab: Hunh... not only am I not at war with Byzantine, but NOBODY is at war with Byzantine when I know for a fact that they were at war with Turkey, Venice, myself, and Sicily the turn before.
I never signed a peace treaty with them, nor did either of us even ask for one. What gives? Is there some script to force the world to be at peace with Byzantine on turn 20? If so, that really does not make sense.
