Default What can you do against people making no attempt at winning?

Specifically, I mean people not trying to win, but trying not to lose

    E.G.

Siege battles - the attacker camps, and nothing you can do as defender

Land battles - One side brings all cav and sits there. If you move forwards, he runs to red line. He will just keep running around in circles and never make an attempt to win the game. Especially problematic on small and med funds and on certain maps (RICE FIELDS WITH SMALL FUNDS) as there is literally no way to catch the enemy cavalry.

In real war (or any other game for that matter), you would just go for the objective. E.G. Starcraft 2 if the zerg player run zerglings around in circles for no reason, u send marine to their base. In DoTa if their hero run around in circles for no reason, you get the tower. But no such objectives here exist, and I'm wondering if there is ANYTHING you can do to 'win' against players making no attempt to win the game.

This differs explicitly from people like in RTW who would bring full army bow cav and try and kite you to death. These people MAKE NO ATTEMPT TO WIN THE GAME.

Yes I'm mad and I just playde against these guys.

    Thanks for reading.

Is this a problem? I have never seen this.

I can suggest you play 2vs2. I guess the frequent of this happening would be significant reduced when playing against two people.

It doesn't happen often, but it still happens.

But anyway, regarding this reason or some other, Conquest-based gamemode would be fun (imo).

    This.

I spent a good 15 minutes running after an obviously defeated opponent last night

    Douche move!

The games seriously need a timer, though. Or objectives.

Just minutes ago Ive made a similar experience.
I played against {XII-FULMINATA}|Littorio| an ass****** from italy/an italian clan.
My troops where kicking his ass, routing his troops, except his cavalry. Instead of accepting defeat (there was no way he could turn this around), he started running away for minutes over the whole battlefield. At some point, I just moved my troops in a forest, camping, to prevent them from getting totally exhausted. He was crying around that Im a camper and tried to harass my troops with his archer-general (very annoying).
At some point he probably understood that he:
    a) lost and
    b) is an ass****, so he charged into my remaining forces and got destroyed - finally.

Very unfair, lame and just fun-killing. I wonder why people are such heads sometimes?

    - Bringt speedy (veteran) cavalry to get some of his stuff pinned (keep melee troops close enough)

    - Create an opening thus he attacks you

    - Have the retainer that slows enemy cav down. Actually a pretty useful one for every game

A timer would just make it worse, imagine if some douche had a light cav left and he only had 15 min left to get a draw instead of a loss.

    True.

It really is annoying and hard to counter, even with the slow-nme-cav-down retainer. However, those options are the only ones we got. Or simply disconnect - we're all dishonourable cowards anyway

Maybe they should add a feature where if you control all those houses that give you buffs for maybe 5 minutes you automatically win. There's no way you'd be able to do that without engaging his army anyway, unless he runs his army way back to the red lines, in which case he deserves the loss anyway.

in all honesty... how often does this happen.

i truly dont think this needs to be fixed... i played all weekend and never ran into this issue. yes, it may happen once or maybe even twice in a long strech of great games! so you play a douche... kick his arse and if he wants to trap around, hide and corner him... yeah, it takes time, but any type of altering in the game, just for a very few number of lameo's, may disturb the many awesome games that you have already played!

i dont want objectives... i dont want bases... i dont want timer... etc. how it is is pretty awesome!

I agree with Ragga, I've not once have come across it yet.
I know from ETW/NTW how annoying it can be, but I find the current gameplay very solid and doubt the gain of changing it will be worth the risk.

There is lots of this, plenty of people will make a beeline for a map corner that is uphill and in a forest, and wait literally and I tested this LITERALLY three hours till you get fed up and come after this.

I usually always attack anyways. usually very early so they cant get a good position. if you dont want them to camp. learn how to control the field.
    You look great today.

with SH2??? do you have any replays... all weekend i played SH2 (thanks to my wife's prior engagements)... and did not encounter this once. of the many games, i met maybe one or two campers, but once i got the bonus buildings (all of them considering he just sat in his deployment zone) i attacked... and boy was it a slaughter

if there are not bonus buildings... the attacker, so it seems also in SH2, always has the advantage... control the field make the battle how you want it... make the camper adjust his line... etc.

Much like in life, theres no way to stop someone being an arse hole, you've just gotta quit and leave them be to thier own idiocy.

Indeed, I think only time will help.
Quitters have always been there but in other games it became eventually recorgnized as a lame tactic and sporting players wont exploit it.

The only true remedy, I guess, is to only play with people you know and like.

I appreciate the feedback on this thread, but many of you have missed the point.

This is NOT when they bring 20 bow archers and kite you to death
This is NOT gunpowder camping on mount everest

This issue specifically refers to people who, for whatever reason, make no attempt at all to win the game. E.g. Rice Fields w/light acv running in circles.

You cannot bait them into an opening, becauase they will NOT ATTACK IT. They are NOT TRYING TO WIN THE GAME. You would ahve to charge his cav with your archers in an open field before they would attack you.

In siege battles, this problem is significantly worse. Because there, the attacking team can just camp with more units, instead of attacking like tehy should, due to no timer or other method of forcing the game to end.

Yes, I understand that this doesn't happen often. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. I honestly don't understand how people find enjoyment from such pointless measures. And to be quite frank, a well-designed game SHOULD NOT allow this to happen, either through game mechanics, or community.

If this happens just quit and play someone else. It's just a computer game.
