    Default Pixels or Sprites

    hello fellow players of SS

    While im playing SS i cant help but to feel frustated to see the sprites in the battle map, looks ugly and gives me the impression that how much u retouch the game to make if feel realistic, its just a game.
    My comp will be able to handle the game without them, I just want to know how to delete em and just make the units in ALL ranges look 3D not Sprites.

    What do i change? Where? How?

    He means when you zoom out the units don't look good anymore. I think that's an engine issue so it can't be fixed.

    I know a fix, turn your unit gfx to highest, there problem solved

    see the difference?

    so you know the ugly ones are commonly known as Sprites =)
    and i turned to unit highest

    You mean the units farther away so that the game doesnt run like ?

    hmm well my units look like that as well...but i have a pretty old graphics card if that has anything to do with it :$

    You have to set the unit detail to highest in the config file, not within the game to get rid of sprites.

    there is another way to increase the quality...you just have to edit the modelsdb...

    for example:

    change the bold numbers to 6400...(it should improve the unit graphics, not sure though)


    Edit: It will take a LONG time to change it for all the units

    in 6.3 i was able to fix this setting unit detail on highest but seems this no works any more in 6.4...

    For 6.4 I went into the Medieval II preference.cfg file and set the unit detail to highest. But I found that my battlemaps were often freezing up, so I went and set it back to high again.

    With 6.2 I was able to set the unit detail to highest in the options menu, and the battles didn't freeze up on my computer. Why the difference? Do I need a better graphics card to play battles with unit detail set to highest on 6.4?

    Most likely yes.

    minor related question, but isn't there a texture optimization submod/update/patch being made? would that, once released, decrease the amount of resources needed to render far away units, or is the difference negligible (ie. far-away units with the default textures require the same resources as far-away units with the soon-to-be-released/updated texture optimisation thing?)?

    or was it discarded?

    AFAIK it's still being made.

    Check both the m2tw config file in the M2TW folder and the default.cfg in the SS folder.

    No it's default.cfg in the SS6.3 folder

    Change the selected to highest. If it still doesn't seem to work, also change it in m2tw.preferences.cfg in the base M2TW folder.
