The only problem I have ever had with a civil war game is that inherently, the North has more resources and manpower. The South needs to have better generals if they are even going to stand a chance.

I think with our larger player base we can support two nations. The main question would be, what time would we set it in? 1914 would be good, with both nations on opposing alliances.

Wouldn't exactly know the state of the Confederacy by 1914.

I could come up with something. Basically by 1914, the Confederacy has a fairly good industrial base (developed after cotton competition increased from India), has acquired Texas from Mexico, due to Confederate settling, gained a ally in the Central American Confed, which was propped up faster, and retains Slavery, though this a strong emancipation movement among the urban population.

If we're going to revisit WEF, we really should carry it further into the future. WEF is the re-invention - re-inventing re-inventions feels tedious to me. Pushing further into the future would probably mean an end to the Cold War that we created in 1960 (probably resulting less in a Soviet-esque collapse and more in a de-escalation - if you really, really think about it, the only thing dividing WEF Russia and UKA were politics, not doctrines. The UKA really was just a democracy with a hereditary presidency. People forget that, I think). I realize that the era of generalized warfare is largely over since the Cold War ended, but we can figure out where the conflict lies later.

Additionally, I think we should avoid the "two faction" standpoint - while it is a great idea in concept, it ended up hurting us greatly as it divides our player-base into two small groups that don't interact readily. The interactions we did have between WEF UKA and Russia were nothing more than "You suck" and "No you". We need to meld everyone together in a single government for variety - I think that's where the most fun is

Unless we can argue about going to war, then have military positons and play as our own little nation if we want, I really don't care that much. If I can start the Kingdom of Aggy Rocks, then fight the main faction, it's cool, otherwise, no.

Well, no, you'll never be able to do something like that in the WEF-style. I feel like WEF has almost become its own brand of IH

It has. Just a very politcal one.

Indeed, indeed. Creating factions is great fun, but it doesn't have a place in the WEF-setup. Can you imagine designing a nation from the ground up, and then RPing a politican in its legislative assembly?

Faction-based IH's are better suited for war, economy, and diplomacy, IMO.
