add the box from a store to my steam account?

Hi.

I got a question. I really want this game on Steam, so does anyone know if I can go buy the game in a store, and then come home and add it to my steam account?? I know you might think "why dont you just buy it on steam?" well I got these gift certificates to a store, that's why

you cant not download it from steam, the disk only comes with part of the game or something, so it will automatically be on steam.

Yes you actually have to register your game with Steam anyway.
Any there was a workaround for having to download the game entirely, you only need to dl a day 1 patch.

it can be fully installed from the disk, but it requires steam no matter what, all you do is get the physical game

go activate product on steam, enter the CD key with the disc in the drive, it will then let you install the game from disk and will be registered to your steam account saving you from having to download anything but small patches, if you get the Limited edition *only possible via physical copy* you enter the code via activate product on steam and enter that code as well, it will unlock the hattori faction etc.

oh i must be thinking of the patches, those are downloaded from steam correct?

yes.

no matter how you buy the game, it will use Steam and be tied to a Steam account. it will automatically download patches as they become available.

box set with discs, or downloaded from steam directly.

and the advantage is because it is tied with steam, you canm buy the game, in a box, then come home, break the discs and throw them in the trash, and then type the code into Steam and download from the steam servers.

IMO steam is so handy

Even with games that don't use steam as heavily as Shogun does you can add them and then download the (steam hosted ones) as though you brought them off steam originally.

Library > Add a game > Activate a product on Steam

Then you need to type in your registration code etc etc and it'll be up there. Done it with TW Empire as I store brought it, even though I always download it with steam.
