Default What the heck? Human AI?

So I was about 50 turns into my campagn ... everything ticking along nicely - good trade, nice army, a few provinces...

All of a sudden I fight a big battle and it tells me I am waiting for a 'drop in(?)' or similar opponent.

WTF? I like the AI. It is stupid and predictable.

The forces were evenly matched and I won - but it was a 'close victory'. That was the first non-heroic victory I'd had. A few more like it and I'll be a goner.

I guess its a good idea, but I play strategy games to avoid people - not to embarrass myself trying to strategise in battle against them while drunk.

yea ive turned off the drop in battles but the game still randomly turns them back on, had it happen 3 times in the same campaign single sitting,

started game, turned off the feature played 20-25 turns got a siege battle that had a drop in so i canceled it again turned off the drop in, played another 50 turns so around turn 75 it did it again, and then a 3rd time at around turn 100, its rather annoying but i just set steam to offline mode when i play and now it cant do that random anymore.

I felt kind of bad some guy was doing a shiamzu campaign, and i happened to dropin. He had about 1000 mixed with ashigaru and samurai. I had 2 generals and ashigaru, and reinforcements, all in all about 2500. He barely won due to low moarle of my men, then he told me i ruined his campaign b/c some one else was sending a stack to attack his demolished army. Ifelt kind of bad

    Hehe. Nice one.

I played a drop in where I had 4 yari ashigaru and 1 bow ashigaru, and my opponent had 6 yari ash, some bow ash (don't remember how many) and a general. Was my first drop in game so I figured, well, gonna get creamed.

Except he sent two of his yari off to my right, maybe looking for hidden units. I did have one yari hidden far to my left and my remaining force on a forested hill in the center, so when his larger force got close I figured, well, if I'm gonna die, I might as well charge with all I got at his main force since it'll take time for his other two units to get here. Did that, and also flanked with my yari from the left, so he charges his general in where things are going bad...

I did lose but he was hurt, and I killed his general. Right before I logged off the defeat/victory screen, I saw my opponent ask in the chat box, "Am I playing a human?"

Does it give you a notice if you're playing a drop-in? Or is it very much possible that I've actually played a few "Human AI's" without knowing it in all my campaigns? lol

Well, if you tick the drop in box you get a drop in battle. I worked this out sometime ago. Also, if you are unsure whether you have or have not ticked this box, then you can find out if the oppenent is human by the "players ready" box above the start battle panel.

I played my first and only drop in game the other day, the chap was a complete lemming; his first move: use his three generals as regular cavalry and charge my yari samurai front line: thanks for that, the Mori lost their Daimyo, their heir and their best general in the space of about 30 seconds!

His next move? Well that would be to bring his bow ashigaru up into range of my bow ashigaru and have them face with their backs to my troops, after a few volleys he realised and turned them around but the damage was done.

He was left with a few yari ashigaru and a katana samurai unit all now suffering quite poor morale for seeing their leaders and bowmen get butchered, a quick cahrge by my shimazu katana swordsmen and the battle was mine.

When I asked him in the chat about why he charged the generals in he responded " I didn't have any, only cavalry" FACEPALM!

Still, was a nice easy battle for my secondary campaign (since I'm waiting for a mod for the divided kingdom before resuming my main campaign since it's become a boring hack and slash across Japan)

Anyhow, I may give drop ins a few goes to see what others are doing in their campaign and what I can do to make it difficult for them

The battles are nice, I know many people complain about the poor AI so occasionly I drop into some campaigns to kind of do my civic duty and provide a better challenge, or at least some different tactics than the AI.
Its rediculous though that you get zero experience and avatar campaign progress for that.

I won a siege battle that was quite a challenge. The player had: 1 general, 1 group of ashigaru archers, 4 groups of ashigaru yari spearmen.

I had: 1 group of ashigaru Yari spearmen and 1 group of samurai retainers at the fort, and my reinforcements where: 1 group of light cavalry, 1 group of Ashigaru yari spearmen and 1 group of Ashigaru archers.

He kept one group of spearmen in reserve while he send three groups at my walls from three different sides. My forces at the fort where holding back two of the three, using guard mode to hold out longer untill reinforcements arrived. The third group of spearmen was mostly butchered when my light cavalry charged at them while they scaled the walls. The remains where half a group on the verge of routing.

After that I took my light cavalry to the other side to charge at his archers and general. A suicide attack, but I had to stop his archers from attacking my troops. I managed to get his archers to rout and placed my own archers in a position to fire a volley at the infantry fighting against me in the fort which caused them to rout, my reinforcing spearmen helped the fight to tip the balance. After that my archers killed the enemy general before he could get away.

Quite a nice victory, but I do feel sorry for the guy since it was the starting year and likely the first castle he tried to capture, possibly leaving my AI army in a position to crush him.

In another battle I had 2 groups of archers, 1 group of spearmen and a group of light cavalry. Infantry was all ashigaru. Enemy player had a general, 4 groups of spearmen and 1 group of archers. Which where also ashigaru troops.

I hid my infantry on a rather steep hill, and placed my cavalry somewhere away from them to not give away the position. The enemy approached and I slowly moved my cavalry past my hidden infantry, luring him closer as he tried to shoot my cavalry with his archers. I kept my archers from firing untill most of his troops where in firing range. Then I opened fire and kept my spearmen back to protect my archers when needed. My own archers fired mostly at his archers, which he protected with his spearmen. He used three groups of spearmen to protect his archers and general, effectively from three sides since he send one group of spearmen up the hill to fight against my archers, only to be kept at bay by my spearmen that came out of hiding.

I probably should have kept circling my cavalry around him to keep him at bay, but when I saw an opening I took it and charged at his archers and general, taking out quite a few of them and in the meanwhile his spearmen on the hill where gone and his archers pretty much as well. My cavalry got butchered first, and then the rest of my troops followed. But it was a costly victory to him, he lost many troops. I had fewer forces but killed about a hundred more troops.
