Icon5 So I just lost... I need help on a decision on who next

So I just lost my game as Takeda. I was on like turn 60 (Normal difficulty) and I was being attacked by the Uesugi from the north, and the Satomi took over my two allies (Hojo and Imagawa(sp?) to the south; and then went for me.

I got surrounded, and gave up because there was noway I could win with like 700 per turn income (broke!)

Anyways, seeing as the difficult position and economic situation the Takeda start off in is kind of turning me off to try them again.

My problem is I am really indecisive, and I can't decide which clan to play next. I tried Hattori, but I didn't like how they were hated by everybody in the beginning, and I don't know how to use the combat ninja effectively so I feel like their passive bonuses are being wasted. I tried Chosokabe since I use a lot of archers, but the start was really slow and I kind of got bored playing them.

Date seem fun, but I like being in the middle of the action so I don't really know if I want to start out all alone on the edge of Japan... same goes with Shimazu.

I just don't know who to play, and I'm literally sitting here in clan selection screen for 30 minutes unable to decide who to play for my next campaign.

    Can you guys help me?

Try Hojo, go straight for Izu province, it has gold.

Plus, bonuses to siege equipment is probably useful later on.

Yeah, Hojo are awesome, you get bomb throwers and trebuchets like right from the start.

    That does sound interesting.

Unfortunately, there are some clans (Hattori, Hojo, some others) where their bonus is like non-combat related and I feel like I won't be able to perform to the best of my ability in battles. Can they still hold their own?

    Thanks in advance.

When you send whole armies routing because they don't like being blown to bird by explosions, I call that combat related.

Haha that is true. But I mean something like upkeep reduction to the bulk of your army and more effective OF those units, seems a lot bigger looking at the big picture. i will try a campaign as Hojo though and see where it goes.

I'll be honest, as the Shimazu I'm supposed to enjoy bonuses to katana samurai. The bonus is useful but not anything to get excited about.

It's like a 2 bonus to melee attack. It helps but it's so small I can't even be bothered to remember it.

Using this idea and running with it, should I be concerned about picking a clan solely on the bonus?

Basically right now I am trying to decide on a clan, and I feel like if I don't choose one with some sort of battle bonus (Chosokabe, Takeda, Date to name a few) that I won't do good in battles.
It also makes me feel like if I use archers a lot I have to be Chosokabe, is that true?

Basically what I am saying is, can I pick a clan and still use an army or certain units that they don't specialize in and do good? Like if I'm not Chosokabe, should I not use archers very much? Or should I kind of ignore the bonuses and just pick whatever and use whatever I want in my army since the bonuses aren't incredible.

That probably didn't even make any sense...

Yes, don't pick based on bonus. It's a boost but starting position is more is more important.

Archers are still very useful even if you're not the Chosokabe. Much more important than the stat bonus is the decrease to upkeep costs. But that can be mitigated by planning your economy well and seizing gold provinces and trade resources. Hell, the Tokugawa's diplomacy/metsuke bonus might help you as much as better troops if not more.

The attack bonus can be crucial sometimes when outnumbered, if you know how to use the samurai.

To the OP: You'd better play with Shimazu or Chosokabe, good trade, good position, good units (especailly Chosokabe), best for a start or to experience yourself.

It is not easy to be in the middle of the map, when you have frontlines in both side. Hattori has been easy for me and played well with great tactics and planning each sieging, allies, trades etc... reason, why they were hated because it is important who will be your allies. Even my Hattori I have allies with Chocokabe, Takeda + 2 minor clans.

So sad to hear, because i am not sure which clan would fit for your game-style. It is really important to learn how to play. That why this is tragetic game.

so try avoid 2 frontlines, because it will mean hell when you have realm divine full.

Ok. Well the thing is I don't really know my playstyle. No matter which clan I choose I play the same (or similar) way. Hattori are cool, but I don't really know how to use their ninja units or anything effectively. Although the bigger deployment zone is REALLY cool.

The reason I lost as Takeda is because I had 2 (or 3, hehe) frontlines.

Seem that I must make guide about those "Kisho ninjas" in the battlefield to Hattori -Thread, when I have enough time. Campaign ninjas good targets for beginner ninjas are like monks, castle gates, rice supplies or other building around provinces. When your ninjas is rank 2, he can try catch 1-2* generals, matsukes and bigger buildings.

Yea if you added that tutorial it would help out a ton! I'll try out Hittori again for my next campaign, but I am trying Hojo right now and so far am having a blast.

Hojo. Upgrade your goldmining complex in Izu, expand to all the provinces in your objective, keep all your provinces that aren't on the frontlines to generate gold (Markets and Sake Dens over Sword school deep inside your empire). Pretty easy clan to start off with and you can truly dominate if you use all your provinces to full advantage.

Shimazu are really good, first make friends with the Oti and Sagota? you can do this even after beating them up a bit "the Oti" and theyll
even give you a daughter or two, cement your relationship with them because the Shori "Christian" clan are a real pain in the a** later.
Once you did the mission to take the oti province, build up 2 x trading port, grab some trade ships, theyre quite cheap, and stack up to x 8.
you can then grab the nearest 2 trading zones and rake the yen in,
build a monastery in one town for a monk and a sake den for a ninja, go have some fun playing your new found allies against eachother,
pop a rebellion with your monk, wear them big stacks down by making them fight rebels all the time, then let the rebels win the province/town
by sabotaging your allies armies with ninjas effectively halting them, once the rebels hold the town, drop your army off the boat
(which was waiting off shore) and go take the town.
I lol'd because the allies actually helped me take they're own town effectively committing mass suicide but you can have fun taking stuff
without even being at war with anyone at all. great game

Hattori or Tokugawa (?) Because of their initial espionage capabilities.

Hojo are awesome. The building bonus saves a ton of cash and Izu is the most profitable province in the game thanks to the gold mine, also you start with a port in your other province so you can go for sea trade very early.

Hojo are a supreme economic power and you can bide your time will you research the tech tree. All the while your enemies will kill each other off.
